Dont think so.
I'm like DC and SS, but DoW II isn't good for me.
Better DL pirate version, then decide

To me, DoW II was what they call "so okay it's average". It's nowhere near as enjoyable as Dark Crusade, but I can't bring myself to call it bad. Chaos Rising is better, with nicer campaign, though I wish they brought the original actor for Eliphas. (the new one isn't as bad as people say, but still) I enjoyed the campaign in Retribution, but the game has some glitches and it seems like they don't feel like fixing them. I heard all of them really shine in MP, though I only played some Last Stand in Retribution.
I think Chaos Rising is the best of those, but story continues straight from DoW II, so if you want to play CR for the plot, get both. Retribution if you want multi.

Only the DWII and DWII CR have GFWL. DWII Retribution is Steamworks. ;)

I also didn't like the demo but I got the game last year when I bought some THQ pack from Steam and I found it enjoyable. Not similar to the first game, but enjoyable nevertheless. Let's say it's more of a RTT (Real-Time Tactics) than a RTS game as the armies are much smaller (especially in the campaign).

Could you check Q4, please? Either there's a mistake in the answer or I can't think of anything else 8D

Maybe I am. Got everything else from the first try, and completely confused on that one. Perhaps, you might paraphase?

2 and 10 are eluding me. Probably missing what you mean by "homebrewed".

DoW II is much less massive than the first part. It's basically focused on 5 squads that you have to manage and level up (well there are also additional squads to choose from, but in every mission you play with only 5). It's still a fun game, but how much fun you would get out of it depends on whether you don't mind smaller scale and more RPG elements in the game.

I would go for the company of heroes games as they are closer to warcraft than DoW.

The first was definitely better, this is more along the lines of Company of Heroes with Warhammer skin. Which isn't bad it's just not the first game. So if you like Company of Heroes you'll probably like DoW2, if not maybe better to stick with the first game. I will say that while I could just never get into DoW2, or CoH for that matter, but I still really liked the Last Stand mode.

I used to be a real fan of the original game, specially the Dark Crusade expansion, but I remember trying the demo for the first DoW2, and I didn't enjoy it as much as I did with the first games.
I also enjoy the 40k lore and have two armies, Frebooter (Pirates!) Orkz, and some henchmen strong Grey Knights, with the Ordo Chronos (Lost time travelling imperial force) in mind.
Anyway, that was a demo, and I don't know how good the expansions are, so I'm asking you if it would be worth it picking it up now that it's on sale.
Thanks in advance!
