The Whispered World (Steam): Did anyone with the audio/video issues manage to get it working?

I've been scouring forums for some time now and have tried all the solutions posted, I think (use a cracked executable, disable visual themes and desktop composition for tww.exe,...) but the audio still stutters in all the videos and the videos start to lag almost immediately. I have been wanting to play this game for years and the lack of support on the developer's part is quite disappointing, I must say. Could anyone help me out, please?
