Every month, Humankind comes together to ponder a Choice purchase. What do you pick?
In my country we don't have the tradition of April Fool's Day so... 😅

Since humble's obviously onto leakers, guess might as well leak the method to get leaks :D
URLs in emails were very predictable, basically month + year + image kind
eg.

for April humble made fake at

I knew it had to be something like that which was how leakers were getting the details. It was a bit dumb on the part of Humble to use such a predictable format, it should have been just a random string each time. But well played on their part for the trolling, it will also mean that all leaks in the future will be treated with suspicion.

It was a bit dumb on the part of Humble to use such a predictable format
They did it on purpose to make leaks happen, because then they got a lot of hype out of it, people were talking about next monthly/choice for a week ahead, everyone would know some games that are coming, interest was growing and such... Marketing, not a mistake.
Comment has been collapsed.
Makes a lot of sense. They knew leaks are wide spread, buzz was going down... So this move created so much buzz, and now that everyone knows it was a crafty sneaky joke, we're still talking about it even if we didn't buy the real bundle. And in the future, no one will ever trust the leaks fully but they'll still follow them... because human nature.
Comment has been collapsed.
If they go by the "any publicity is good publicity" then sure, it makes sense to do that but otherwhise it's terrible marketing and a mistake. They raised expectations and got people interested but then failed to deliver, so what have they accomplished? Now, not only they won't capitalize on the free publicity but they will also get backlash from it. It would be one thing if they still delivered a solid/good bundle, people might be slightly disappointed but would buy it anyway but this bundle is average at best, so where is the upside for them? Like FoothWith said, it doesn't make sense.
Comment has been collapsed.
Didn't trick me cause I didn't particularly care about the bundle leak nor believed it was true to begin with (Sony doesn't bundle their games and Ubi wouldn't give a Steam key) but going by this thread and others people are more annoyed than happy. So if Humble was trying to be clever about it, it backfired.

I meant "you" as in a customer in general, not you as a person Vaart.
And if you (Vaart), who you say yourself didn't care in particular and knew it won't happen, are still talking about it after it came out false, then they achieved exactly what they aimed to do.

they achieved exactly what they aimed to do
And it goes back to the beginning when I said if "any publicity is good publicity" was their idea then it worked great, if it wasn't then it failed imo.
You think this was a great idea by them, I don't. Agree to disagree.
Comment has been collapsed.
Interesting thought. And I guess even with people knowing that the leaks are burned they will still get that 'yes/no/maybe' discussion in the week leading up to the reveal, adding to the marketing. So maybe you are right?
I also wonder if the lack of coupons wasn't tied to a general tightening up of the monthly offering, where the coupons were getting too predictable and people were waiting until the last minute to buy, hoping for a maximum discount.

There are a couple of free DLC for Humankind to claim on Amplitude Studios's site. Those do require you to link your Steam account however.

Hey, at least we got one game as promised, right? Right guys?

So funny to see how different my taste is compared to others. So much negativity about this bundle, and to me, it's fantastic. Keeping 5 of these games. It's an absolute no brainer for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Both bundles equally good to me, wanted Coromon for a while, Symphony looks great, Callisto and Returnal were equally desirable, and I did not want AC Valhalla, nor do I want Victoria, so that will be traded away anyways. Happy with this month!
Comment has been collapsed.
Exactly. I never would have bought Victoria 3 or Humankind due to the mixed reviews, even if I enjoy RTS. I removed Humankind from my wishlist a while ago when I saw it's reviews. They can be quite expensive, and would want to be overwhelmingly positive to get me to pay even the sale price. Now I can try them out at very little cost. I think a lot of people who enjoy these types of games will go for this bundle for the same reason.
AND I got Coromon, which was on my wishlist.

I don't mind the lineup change that much, I'm more annoyed that Symphony of War and Coromon were bundled several times already. Way to go, HB

people keep buying so they keep slowing making it worse and worse. test the water from time to time with huge changes, never for the better
less games, coupons, rebundled games, so on

Its ok, althought i dont like strategy games and i already own callisto protocol(all 3 are 66% lol), the only thing i want is fashion police... Since I dont wanna loose my 20% coupons am i forced to buy it. The worst of it, Now i dont know if it is safe to buy returnal alone since i always wanted it.... Bad move IGN.

You could easily get your money back trading/selling the games away so not a problem really.

Happy to see both Fashion Police Squad and The Excavation of Hob's Barrow. Already have The Callisto Protocol on PS5. The rest aren't really my types of games.

it adds a few classes to the main game, some additional unique mercenaries, on top of the DLC chapters.
the NG+ it adds is pretty extensive to... letting you customize the game experience greatly.
I will 100% be doing an additional playthroughs with the NG+

A game that I (and many others) got in a fanatical pick-and-choose bundle.
Comment has been collapsed.
I feel for that Werewolf game which couldn't make an appearance two times in a row. Maybe it'll be a regular thing or at least a meme.
I wouldn't necessarily call this a downgrade. Returnal is a big miss but I do think Victoria 3 is okay (as a game and as in value, it's just not a Returnal though). I'd prefer Humankind and Callisto over Valhalla tbf. Everything else are just ok. Not too different from the leaks value/popularity wise. I see a strong bottom row, known games with strong playerbases (yeah sometimes you want hidden gems but this is better for the business).
The only problem is: There are 4 strategy games in one single bundle.
Comment has been collapsed.
April's Fools really is so much fun... well played, HB. Now people are going to bitch all over social media about how the other one was better.
Not sure they won that round.
At least Humankind is the Definitive edition. Now if I only cared about grand strategy games...
Comment has been collapsed.
That's the kind of joke you pull when you have a really good bundle waiting, not when you have a pretty bad one.
And again, I know mileage varies and one man's trash is another man's treasure but not only is this bundle pretty focused on the same genres, which are very far from the ones in the "leak", but the games have also been pretty badly reviewed.
Comment has been collapsed.
I personally can't stand when they put incomplete games and throw in coupons to buy the extra content, which is more expensive than buying the entire complete package (including the base game) for less. This was somewhat worse this month as Callisto Protocol Deluxe had the same price as the standard version during Spring Sale and the actual ending is in one of the DLCs, not to mention the fact that the Season Pass doesn't include all the bits of extra content.
Yet they took the time and effort to tease a superior line-up, comparable to a certain extent to what we got in March, only for them to deliver an inferior line-up, which is, like you've also said, mediocre at best. It's like they joke about the fact they can do better, but they chose not to, even more, they can do worse.

One of the worst ones for me (if not the worst one ever)
Comment has been collapsed.
I found weird that Returnal didn't get heavily discounted on keyshops. Usually, leaked games are always discounted in the days immediately before, like Nioh 2.
I'm really curious about what actually happened. False leaks spread by Humble to "hold" renewals? IDK.
Comment has been collapsed.
They could have made it more obvious. Include the original Pacman, or Skyrim Very Special Edition (the one for Amazon Alexa).

False leaks spread by Humble to "hold" renewals?
You pay for the bundle after you see what's in it. It doesn't matter if you buy the previous month or not, there's always a whole month to decide if a fully known bundle is worth buying or not.
I'll never understand why people get so giddy about a leak that servers no purpose, other than an opportunity to get disappointed if it changes.
Comment has been collapsed.
So in the end we received "Dead Space and Civilization at home" as the headline games instead...
Comment has been collapsed.
LOL! It was a "leak." I don't think we were lied to.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh for sure. It's not really a good idea for businesses to do it because it can go horribly wrong.
I've been involved in elaborate April forum pranks myself, (because they were just forums) and some people do get really invested in these things. They don't stop to think critically.
One year was us banning our real accounts, creating alts and saying that it was a take over of the forum. We had to come clean when a lady insisted she was calling the police. Nothing would have happened us, but she might have gotten in trouble for wasting police time. She was so passionate about it.

An Explanation on why the leaks were not real this time can be found here.
Feel free to also check madjoki's post for the actual URLs.
TL:DR: Humble intentionally released fake leaks to identify what the actual source of the leaks is. This means that we are unlikely to have leaks from now on.
