I'm interested in an MMO I can get into that is pretty freeform. I'd like it to be free and not tooo pay-to-win, and I really like having interesting economy systems where you can get involved as much as possible, as well as cool exploration. A lot like that don't seem to ever be coming to fruition. ArcheAge looked interesting to me and I played a bit, but I've heard it's super money-oriented now.

So, anyone got any suggestions?

Anyway, Orcs Must Die 2 Complete GA here- XKwDi

Also, to any of my chat buddies, miss you guys <3

EVE could be free after 2/3 months because you can buy the month fee in game. I was playing about 2 years and i only paid 1 month. I think that his market is the best of mmorpgs.

Always found it interesting, but the learning curve looks so steep. I play a lot of strategy and stuff but it seems like it would take active effort to pick up, not just the usual learning the ropes

^ It's not wrong.
I've been playing Eve for years and still wouldn't come close to calling myself an expert. Maybe "Well Versed" in one or two narrow fields.
That said, it can be epic, but it's not for everyone.

If you like travelling by ship..for exploration in the sense of making discoveries etc I can recommend Uncharted Waters Online (you can also download outside steam). It's has a third-person view either on foot or boat. You can do adventuring, trading between cities and PvE or PvP fighting (if it's not your thing, it's not hard to avoid). The exploration part is about re-discovering real-life..well..discoveries that cover a range of fields from biology, art, archaeology etc.. Trading is mostly about buying goods from place A, selling to place B. There's an extensive crafting system via recipes from books for clothes, accessories, weapons etc. You also have your military part where you can fight in land or at sea, with NPCs or other players..

Sounds cool. I tried downloading it once on my old comp but it wouldn't open properly, but I might try again now that I have a better laptop/

Forgot to mention that the graphics may be a bit dated but don't let that keep you from trying it out. Also..need patience at the beginning ;)

GW2 is pretty good exploration-wise. TSW is also worth looking into; terrific and underrated, it redefines the meaning of "exploration" - it's not for everyone's palate though, and wouldn't exactly define it as free-form.

Sounds like you want to play Eve Online.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/

(edit: ah someone already suggested that... yes indeed its entry barrier stops me playing it too actually)

GuildWars2 is a recommendation from me too. As well as GW1 too. It does have missions but features an outer world to explore too.

Trove is a favorite of mine, its pretty simple but deep in some ways and updated often. Its main point is collection. If you are interested add on me on steam and I can give some advice and help :D

Unfortunately, I don't know what game to suggest... Perhaps Trove as well? It's good if You love collecting as someone has already mentioned that earlier.
