I was thinking just now:

We make a dropbox single giveaway single chain player chain.

It would work like this. I buy I game, lets say Supreme Commander 2 just now on sale on Gamersgate. And I buy another copy.
I start a dropbox giveaway with this game.

Now the next player that comes along sees Supreme Commander 2 in there and goes: Oh great, I don't have a paypal account so I wasn't able to get it on Gamersgate, but here is one copy.
So now player 2. clicks claim on the box and has 10 minutes to buy a copy of X game for the price equal or higher than the price I payed for Supreme Commander. (atm 3.75$) and he takes out my copy of SC2 and puts his game X in.

Now player 3 comes along...

Q: If someone puts in a game 30$ but no one wants to give that much for it what then?
A: After 48 hours the price goes down to the last price it was before 30$.

Q: What if the first game in the drops box is fake?
A: Player 1. that started the dropbox get's banned. Player 2 that now has a game he wanted to place in the dropbox becomes player 1. and adds a note which game EXACTLY he wanted to get.

Q: How to prevent many fake dropboxes being made?
A: Only players with 50$ or 100$ or more can use the dropbox system. Or only accounts allowed by the mods for start.

The second game in the drop box would either be a Dota 2 key, Metro 2033 or Penny Arcade's On The Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness 3

I think the emphasis was on the I in that sentence. Meaning if the drop box was set up, then he would appreciate someone adding a Metro 2033 key.

Or he could just be begging... :P

Seems kinda convoluted and probably exploitable. Besides, if someone has one game but wants another game, they could just go to steamtrades and trade for the game they want.

Yeah... because trading works out so well every time.

It does if you're not stupid about it.

Interesting idea, but probably not "SG material".

(A little bit resemble to me the gameminer events, rly just a little bit.)

Snipe the $30 game, fail to offer, drop out. Profit.

It will simply come to a point where some asshole tries to show how generous they are by donating to the collection an expensive ass game and nobody will want to be part of donating anymore and it will die. :) I use the term "asshole" as humorously as possible.

This doesn't sound like gifting. It sounds like a trading system. People will do the lowest value item they can for something better.

People will be trading indiegala keys for humble Alan wake keys and shit like that.

does it have to be a single game or would a pile of keys amounting to comparable value suffice? you need to clarify this at the start
