So a couple of hours ago, I was trying to play Dark Souls and it wouldn't sign me in. I figured, hey, its GFWL, no surprise. But then steam was saying "no connection" in the downloads area--even though I had an internet connection and could view the store. But I couldn't get it to change so I rebooted. Now, I try to open steam, it prompts me to sign in (it usually doesn't) and then never logs in. Usually I get an unable to connect error.

Now, for the last week or so my internet connection has been throttled by my university for exceeding a monthly bandwidth limit (which is just AWESOME) and it's still been fine. My firewall isn't blocking it, and I can't think of any reason this is happening or any way around it. Any advice?

Not lots of screenshots. Maybe 20 or 30 tops. Maybe a number of quicksaves from Skryim I guess but not many screenshots.

same happens to me right now. lost connection to a game, then noticed it was the same with steam. I closed it and restarted, and it asked for me to enter my logins, saying that it couldn't connect

Stay calm. Steam is borked at the moment.

Try taking a walk, or reading a book for a little while :)

Lucky I have consoles. No need to be crazy and deal with lesser entertainment.

I have my game systems and TV next to my PC. The only one I need to leave the room for is the N64, since I use that on a SD TV I'm keeping in the dining room.

I actually did read a book earlier :) Shadow Puppets, in the Ender saga. Good book so far, if not quite Enders game or Speaker for the dead.

But I hate myself and want to play Dark Souls.

I actually just played a soccer game! We lost, but I scored all our goals, so that was something.

Ok, thanks guys. I didn't notice any other threads to this effect, so I assumed it was just me. My school's internet is sucky enough that that wouldn't have surprised me at all.

Don't worry, you aren't alone. Shame you aren't me. I could grab out the PS3 and enjoy Demon's Souls at this time. :P

Haha yeah my consoles are back home. And I never actually played Demon's Souls, this is my first foray into death and misery ;) But I have other games I could play I just wanted to figure this problem out. Now that I know it's a Steam wide problem I can wait.

Yeah it's saying steam is up but I'm still not able to log in. I'll reboot and try again just to see if that does anything, and if not I'll just wait til tomorrow I guess.

Still not working after a reboot and trying over and over. Guess I'll just wait and hope it works itself out by morning....

I had the same problem, but eventually I logged in and Steam disappeared from the processes, then restarted and logged in as usual as a second update was pushed.
