I just started doing giveaways and I was wondering, is there any real reason to make a giveaway go more than an hour or two? (Public giveaways) You don't gain extra exp with more entries or anything right?

To advertise something.

It's just personal preference. Normally I make mine before I go to bed, before work, etc so I come back to an inbox full of love <3
I also plan on them ending when I'm around to get keys out as soon as I can.

there could be a ton a various different reasons. leaving down for a couple of days, going to bed, cause you want several thousand entries instead of several hundred, the longer a AAA is up the more whitelists it may gain, and many many more.

No extra CV. But other reasons may apply:
Example: Give a chance to enter to people around the world

I follow general rule of minimum 1 day giveaway if I want to make it fair for everybody around the world to enter. I don't follow it always, especially with some random discussions/shitposts, but usually it's a good idea if you prefer to make a bit more "fair" giveaways.

So that more people can enter? I mean, an hour isn't that long if you're doing pretty much anything other than refreshing steamgifts.

I had thought that it might be a good idea to have CV multiply by the number of entrants, which would incentivise people to make longer giveaways, and to pimp them out on other sites, which in turn would bring more users to steamgifts.

But then I realised that the folk who designed steamgifts know what they are doing, and likely binned a similar idea when they were setting everything up. I trust their judgement more that I trust my half baked ideas.

alright thanks for the input everyone. I put one up for 7 days at first cause i thought maybe you would get more points rather than the 300 if there was more entrants but i put up another at 3 hours and one 1 full day so i wasn't sure if there was any benefit.

thank you!

You shouldn't put giveaways just for CV, think of the people entering :)

there's no REAL reason no...I Generally make mine a day or two, to give everyone a chance to see it and enter it..I usually do whitelist giveaways between a week or 2....same with private forum posted giveaways/trains....but it's just to ensure everyone interested gets a chance to enter.
