Revocation code is useless if you have access to phone number, but it's still worth it to save in nice place just in case you lose your phone number permanently.

You need to either deactivate 2FA completely, or re-activate it on your phone.

Try to log in from phone, on 2FA screen there will be something like "I don't have 2FA anymore" and "I have new phone / I moved it". Then you'll get sms code, 2FA on your new phone, and 1 day lockdown for trades.

You can do the same to completely remove it, but that will be 15 days lockdown.

No need for revocation code or access to 2FA, phone number is enough. Also this is available only in mobile app (moving authenticator), deactivation is also possible from browser/client.

No problem, glad to help. That option is hidden and not available within browser/client, so no doubt many people don't know about it. I'm digging a bit deeper than most people, so I can share what I know :3.

Not the same case, but since you seem to know about it. I got a new phone and been wanted to wait until after the sale (not that I've really had much use with the new gift limitations) in case I got a trade lock out. Is this method the best to change phone or is there a better method if you still have access to the authenticator?

If you have rooted phone you could use Titanium Backup to make a copy of Steam mobile app, then move that backup to your PC and onto new phone, then restore it as new app. This way you "physically" move your authenticator without even sending a single request to Steam.

Thing is, this method is based on android and requires root access on both your old phone and new one. Old one for making a copy of protected app data, and new one for restoring that copy into protected app data region. I'm not sure how about other phones since I'm not working with them.

Otherwise, moving (aka re-activating) authenticator is the best option with only 1 day lockdown, and doesn't require expert knowledge.

All right, thanks! I don't have the phones rooted so I'll just use the move phone option then.

If you are not saving the recovery code thingy , the only thing you can do is to remove the authenticator completely , and then reinstall it on the new device .
That would mean you wont be able to use the community market for 2 weeks , cant instant trade etc .

^^ Pile of bullshit thanks to /r/steam ^^

Had same issue when my phone had a 12 floor fall accident >.<

In theory it's not even moving, it's assigning new authenticator with new credentials on completely new device. So in practice it's the same as removal + new, but in this case you avoid 2 weeks lockdown.

It can never hurt to ask, and you can guess what is my opinion about reddit users and their knowledge - it's usually better to just post thread on SG and kindly let me know to look into it (e.g. by leaving message on one of my gibs).

It definitely wasn't available right away, but it's here since some time now. Perfectly hidden though, so no doubt you didn't know about it - many people don't, I tend to know since I reverse-engineered their entire authenticator data for ASF 2FA.

Possible, and no need to feel down, like I said barely anybody knows about this, I'd actually be shocked if it was common knowledge. Besides, it's only 15 days anyway.

I went through it when switching from my phone to ASF 2FA for my bot during the Summer sale last year (I think?). I had to wait till the last day of the sale to be able to trade cards. DX
It was scary.
