So, in less than a month I'll reach my first anniversary as a member of this grrreat community.
This calls for a story: Remember the Steam auction frenzy of 2014? I was among the people who just had to win a game during the first round after the auction kicked off, and it didn't matter what game it was as long as I was first to win it. I looked for the one that cost the least gems and I ended up winning, though I still think I wasted too many gems on that game... Of course the game I won was one that I had absolutely no interest in adding to my library so I soon begun to wonder what should I do with it as no one in my friends list wanted it either. There just didn't seem to be a place for that little game in anyone's library and I didn't want to keep it in my inventory forever. After some Googling I found Steamgifts and thought that this was a great answer to my dilemma, and surely someone here would be interested in that game! And I was right, for a long while that particular game remained as the one with most entries from the giveaways that I've done... The end.
In the happily ever after part I thought that I could do one giveaway per month because I'm usually broke as [DIRTY WORD ALERT] but that uh, that sort of.. didn't end up happening...

Anyway, I'm not sure if I'll be around for my actual day to do a giveaway so I decided to make a little train instead. Level 1-4 and just cheap lil' stuff because of that bad word I mentioned earlier. Train is already open and will be accepting passengers for couple weeks. You may purchase your ticket here

It's also kinda spooky that I haven't seen giveaways for that particular game in months, but in the past hour or so at least two giveaways for it have popped up.

That's absurd! Why isn't it accepting Potato, that's clearly right. Potato is the day and the time was clearly mash time.

But now seriously not joking how do I know the date and time you registered? Any tips?

I'd direct you to my profile for all answers but... it looks like the time is messing up with the same time working for some people and then not working for others, and I have no idea why itstoohard is doing that. Tip for time that seems to work for many people: Try UTC -6:00. Might help to know that the time needs to have either am or pm attached to it, for example 5:15pm would be in correct format.

It's not ITH fault, it's just that SteamGifts shows the time depending on local zone, not yours.
for me it shows you joined <month> 16, 1:0<minute> am <- removed some info :)

Gonna let you in on a secret: There are 24 acceptable answers for that question. If you get the minute and pm/am part right then you should be able to have the correct answer no matter your time zone. I have since discovered that it's a lot more difficult for people with those oddball time zones, which is why I've been guiding people to try a specific one to get the minutes right as any hour of the day should be accepted by ITH.

I found the answer before I posted earlier (had problems with the format - no space before "pm").

Thanks for the train and the story! :)

Finally got it, no space between the time and pm/am. But it's not UTC-6 is it? (bruteforced the nearest answers)

UTC-6 didn't work for you? Whaaaat is going on here. That should've worked because that's what I used to test the puzzle.......... weird....

I'm UTC -6, worked fine for me.
Might be a daylight savings miscalcuation.

I googled it, and it doesn't seem to ever be grammatically correct to skip the space.

So, at least we have that to comfort us :')

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep, I always put up a space in between when I write it, unless it's in military time.
Case defended. We are on the right track! lol

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hey! To be fair I only skipped the space because SG profiles are also missing the space. I was following the herd, don't blame me! :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's true though, specifics have greater weight than general evidence. The format in the answer is right since it pertains to SteamGifts.

Case closed? haha

Nice train, not! It's not even a maze. It's like a tree or something. Owned a lot of them already. But I entered those that have gift copies, and if I win, then we become friends on Steam.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

SG is our home, our nest, so we must follow the example it gives us; no matter that it might lead us into paths that are grammatically incorrect.

Think of it as one of those bilevel trains where you are forced to go back and forth because you have no idea where the dining car is.
That must be the first time someone has used that as motivation to enter a GA, usually the "you'll get a friend request" is enough to stop people from entering! Like a vicious gatekeeper.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I like it when I win copies that can be gifted on steam cause sometimes I like to play some games with the giver as a way of saying thanks. Damn, I really wanted that last GA. Hope I will be able to reach lvl 4 by 2 weeks by gifting an "unbundled" 85% discount game that I will buy this autumn sale.

SG for life? haha

LOL!

You deleted the previous comment because I thought it was in the wrong place. Then again I just saw that maybe the limit is just for 12 lines. I recently bought the HB games at Tier 1. That would help cause my calculation is that I will receive 13CVs for it, or am I wrong?

Actually, like an idiot I meant to click 'Edit' and then just... yeah, this keeps happening.

I, uh, actually don't know if you're wrong or right, I'm terrible at CV calculation so it's better for me not to start confusing you with my attempts. Only one way to find out for sure, and that's GA galore!

I was totally ready to hit all 24 possible options- but between not knowing if am/pm or 24-hour international time was needed, and the formatting, it was starting to look a bit daunting.

Glad he's not like most puzzle makers on SG, who would have responded 'Nope, it's super easy. You must suck if you can't figure it out. No hints."

Though I guess, what, 72 possible combinations there? I've seen worse :X

Permalink

Hey, you're right. I didn't account for the am/pm without space. That's almost an hour solving the puzzle. But it's indeed worth it for the GA at the end.
