What Was Your First Anime?

What was your first anime ever? Some of you may have started with like a 20 episode anime, maybe some that started with 400 episodes of sheer epicness! My story began with Naruto! A suggestion from my brother. I played ultimate ninja storm with him, then I began the anime.

IIRC it must have been Sailor Moon, then it was Pokémon, then Digimon, after that it was probably Yu-Gi-Oh!, and semi-recently it would be Death Note. I might have forgotten some though i watched all of the above because of what they were, rather than because they are animes, or i was so young i didn't yet know what anime was.

Regarding the poll: It was hard to choose, reading minds would be cool, and flying could be fun, but in the end it was between becoming a dragon (I mean, come on! Also, i'd probably be able to fly then too, heh.), or talking to animals. I ended up voting for talking to animals since that would have the most discreet practical use, though again dragon is really tempting.

...i could probably have made that shorter.

When I was child it was Sailor Moon, Macron 1, Robotech, Grendizer.... It was more than 20 years ago, so I don't remember order.

Much later I met anime again, starting with Neon Genesis Evangelion.

No idea since lots of them were shown on TV but back then they were just cartoons. Stuff like Maya the bee, Taotao etc.

But first I watched on my own knowing it's anime was Urotsukidouji.

At a younger age I didn't differentiate Japanese animation. Willy Fog and Maya the Bee probably were the first, but they weren't so different from other cartoons of my childhood.

After I learned what anime is my first one was Wolf's Rain. The second and the third ones were Hellsing and Evangelion.

First one I actually watched rather than just catching snippets of on TV? I think it was Hellsing. It was not very good :(

Unless we count Moomin as an anime. That one was quite good for what it was.

Hellsing was one of my first animes, too. I was really impressed with it at the time, but now it's nowhere near my list of favourites. Well, the idea of secret military anti-undead organization was pretty fresh at the time.

The idea appealed to me as well, which is why I watched it. But it was a lot of flash and not nearly as much substance as I had hoped for.

Great one! I actually liked english dub better than the original, mostly because of the music.

The English dub is the only one that I've seen. I'm not a big anime fan, but it still a series that I really love!

Although I'd occasionally caught episodes of various anime broadcast on TV as a child, the first anime I properly watched, enjoyed, and appreciated was The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Circa 1980 I used to sometimes catch bits and pieces of Star Blazers on TV as I was getting ready for school. I was 12 or 13 so it being a cartoon might've been a bit embarrassing if I was caught. It was on before a show my sister watched so that was my cover.

First anime I watched and took seriously was "Akita." I rented it on VHS, then bought it off the used shelf for a fin.

The first anime I watched aside from the ones that were broadcast on TV (which I don't count for this because it was a bit infrequent) was Girls und Panzer. And no, that's not a typo, japanese guys seem to enjoy using german words. I was introduced to this and the world of non-broadcast anime by my best friend, who at the time was also my roommate. I miss that time...

Nowadays, I find myself wanting to watch more anime but can't find the time... Sadly because there's so much good stuff out there (I mainly mean music, games and anime here but of course there's even more) :/
