Yeah :d Even with the ability to read minds on demand it could go really wrong, when instead of expected "positive thoughts" one would find something entirely different - bad or simply very, very private and intimate. It wouldn't make the communication between people any easier, contrary, it would become a nightmare for the person using this, I guess.
And - if one person has this ability it means that another one can have it as well. Farewell, calm hours spent on thinking about private things and fantasies, they won't come back ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

I'm legitimately not sure. Could have been Voltron on Betamax, could have been one of the old Dragonball dubs on TV during a family hoilday. I have no good frame of reference for when I watched that Voltron tape, but I know Dragonball was the first anime I saw an episode of on TV. I remember realizing what "that one cartoon I saw at Christmas" was when DBZ started airing in 1998.
The first one I watched more than a few episodes of is also a mystery, because Pokemon started airing one week after DBZ in 1998. I know I watched the first episode of Pokemon, I'm not entirely sure if I watched from the first episode of DBZ. And Urusei Yatsura started airing on PBS in the middle of the night in 1997, but I know I started watching that one pretty far in. Maybe a year in, maybe not? And the Evangelion VHS tapes at the library started coming out in 1996, but who knows how long it was before I picked them up?
In conclusion, I'm not sure, but if I had to guess, I would say Voltron was the first anime that I saw some of, Pokemon was the first anime I watched a season of, and Evangelion was the first one I finished.

Watched a lot of anime when I was a kid, but those were all the usual stuff, and I don't really consider that anime.
What I first started out with when I properly got into it was Studio Guibli stuff. I have the entire collection, still have 2 I've yet to watch.

It was more than 20 years ago and i didn't know about anime. I cant remember exactly what was my first one... Captain Future or Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs or something other in the early morning weekend TV program.

For me it was definitely the first. I remember being in a gaming store in '97 and seeing a collection of non gamerelated DVD's and asked about them. After some explaining about japanese cartoons I asked which of the probably 20-25 complete series they carried was worthwhile watching and came home with NGE Complete Collection and Serial Experiments Lain.

yeah ikr, and some many more like Kimba the White Lion, Gegege no Kitaro or Doraemon 1973, 1979 on some old channels in my country, sorry we don't have any official anime channel in here

What was your first anime ever? Some of you may have started with like a 20 episode anime, maybe some that started with 400 episodes of sheer epicness! My story began with Naruto! A suggestion from my brother. I played ultimate ninja storm with him, then I began the anime.
