If you want to join Dota 2 give away's, then don't install Dota 2 spectator client from steam. Steamgifts thinks it's the same, so you will not be able to enter because it says it excists on ur account

Few weeks is like 3-6 weeks. I don't see any anoncement of it coming that fast so I think it's rather "few months".

Well, I remember how Valve promised L4D2 DLC few weeks after some Portal 2 event. And then it took them a year to finally release it, holding it in beta status until them. So, I guess as long as people will pay to enter beta, it will be in beta. Heh, would be funny to see midweek/weekend DOTA 2 sale...

why... doesnt matter if you install it becomes the real client its probably their way of letting everyone preload without crashing the servers

When you install it you can't play, you can only watch. And when you install it, steamgifts will think you have it, so you won't be able to join - so, if you want to win DOTA 2 here, you can't have DOTA 2 Spectator, which basically is normal dota with locked "join game as player" option.

Why win it when its coming out soon anyway ...

You know Valve's "soon"?
Quoting "https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time":
Date of saying "Soon": 1998, way before 2005
Actual date when it happened: October 10, 2007
What happened: Release of Team Fortress 2

People who actually want to win the beta and get into the game probably have a few months (or years) to wait. If they install the spectator client, they can't participate in giveaways anymore.

And like other said, "soon" could be months from now.

Unless Valve said specific day (and they can't be trusted with those too, as Portal 2 was announced to come at February 9th) then there is no release date. "Soon" took them nearly 10 years, as example shows.

I just force synched my account since it has bee n5 days since last sync and going down my list on steamgifts it is ignoring the fact I have DOTA 2 installed. I also just entered 2 more DOTA 2 giveaways.

I got DOTA 2 spectator client installed then 2 weeks later got a DOTA 2 invite. I honestly don't know why people like this game, just like ARMA 2. I think people like the game's names better than the gameplay.
