Heya so I got a new PC and when I try running older games on Steam on it, lots of them just give me a black screen, not sure what to do?

Examples:
The first 3 Broken Sword games
Syberia games
Musaic Box

My comp:
Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM) i5-4670 CPU @ 3.40GHz
RAM: 8GB
64-bit
GeForce GTX 660
Running Windows 7 Professional

Any help is much appreciated, thanks! :D

Yeah, tried some of the easier ones but didn't work, kind of managed to get it to work now, thanks to the suggestions!

General suggestion: check the Steam log, check your VGA drivers situation (settings, updates). I have no recent experience with Nvidia cards, so I can't be of more help without more detailed information.

Thanks! I experimented more with the fixes I hadn't tried yet, DirectX seemed to be the problem for me!

A lot of problems are fixed by reinstaling Directx, believe or not. Try that first

Yep this worked for me, and I looked up some older version stuff just in case, thanks a lot!

Not sure. Broken Sword games work for me. Some options are disabling SLI and trying different compatibility modes.

Welcome to Steam. Unlike GOG, Steam does not spend much time or effort on making sure old games run properly on your machine. Even so, you can usually find "fixes" in the Steam forum, or try searching the internet for your problem(s). Most problems with games are tied to either the graphics card drivers or DirectX (or both).

They did just fine with the classic XCOM games.

Yeah seemed DirectX was it for me, I'd made sure my drivers are always up to date but completely re-installing did the trick, thanks!!
