Feeding your pets is important, you must always remember to do so. If you want a suggestion, I'd give him cheese.

Sorry, couldn't resist xD
I don't have much to help besides the usual "is it well plugged?" or "are all the pins intact?".

Either way, it sounds like it might be a hardware problem.

replace/resolder the cable, but first test another one on the same port.

Since u said ur mouse is not usb, I assume it's a ps2, if that's the case, I would test another ps2 mouse in that same port and see if the problem persists. connecting another mouse on another port will not show the real problem with that mouse. But will still help to check if it's a software problem (which I actually doubt it is).

Good luck anyways :)

You know, some extr ainfo would help, like the brand and what driver uses. have you tried a different mouse or the mouse on a different pc? It can be a driver issue, a mother board issue or a mouse issue.

Since you mentioned that it's not a USB mouse, I can only assume that it has the older PS2 connector, as shown in this image. If I had to guess, I'd say that there's probably a short in the cable or the connector, itself, but once it loses its connection, a PS2 mouse won't "reconnect", even if you unplug it and plug it back in. (It needs to be detected while the computer's booting up, but once that connection's lost, even if only for a split second, it's gone for good until another reboot.)

Replacing the mouse sounds like your best bet. :)
