Staff has repeatedly stated that they don't have any powers on ST (as you yourself indicated understanding, in your last thread about this topic). You're either asking for clarification on something you already know [or, if you forgot, could google search yourself (add site:steamgifts.com to the end of your search)], or you're not detailing your question well enough. Maybe focus on that instead of being grumpy and confrontational without even giving indication as to why. :P

Also, your thread was closed due to violating the calling out rule. They don't need to give a reason, as that's a rule which is very clearly detailed within the site FAQ- not only that, it's the very first rule on the guidelines page, so pretty visible, as well.

Use the appropriate avenues for support. If you have an issue with another user, submit a ticket with a user report, rather than calling them out within the community or on the forum.

Pretty much, yes.
Currently, that site is self-policed. As in, if enough people band together, they can remove any negative feedback as long as it was replied to. But that is about it.

No moderator would know if an individual is about to scam someone, no moderator can know what's going on between two traders, there already is a 3 thread limit, an hour bump limit and a rep system that you can check before trading with someone. Please tell us what could the moderators do to limit scamming or what moderation do you have in mind because I don't see the need for any.

"That would be true for the most part but its not. The problem is this. A scammer uses fake credit card and buys a bunch of gifts. Trades with legit traders and they in turn trade it to other legit traders. Boom. Now they are all scammed. Scammer gets all his gifts revoked. Now you got a bunch of legit traders involved in scamming since they traded or sold copies that get revoked.

So no. It DOES affect legit traders. All the time actually.

The reputation system only works fully when there is moderation. Otherwise people can fake it with a bunch of fake accounts as well. Without moderation this rep stays. Given a few days or weeks , user now has enough fake rep to scam a few people before they catch up."

"It used to be moderated. And scammers where routinely removed asap. Forcing them to abandon their attempts or have to start over from scratch in the rep system. It GREATLY reduced the number of scammers.

Without moderation you get tons of people giving out free coupons and crap bundle games just to get free rep and do a big scam.

With moderation these threads would be removed . Fake rep would be much harder to produce and users would be removed."

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The part with alternative accounts is true, I'll give you credit for that but that's the only thing they could moderate on. As I said above, no moderator can know what went on between two traders so they have no way of knowing what they traded or if they traded anything at all, it would be impossible to check if the rep is legit and not fake.

There's no need for banning each individual scammer, it would take monumental amount of work from any potential moderator.I think the current rep system is good enough as it is, the community have the tools to check and decide if someone is a scammer or not, no moderator should do your own personal job of checking before trading.

Sorry but I simply disagree. The site was orders of magnitude better when it had moderation. Scammers couldn't get a foothold and didn't last long enough to do any large scams. I am not saying they didn't exist and that scams didn't routinely happen. But nothing like it is now when they have free reign and can act with impunity.

I don't think it's a valid point. You mention in the OP that the mods don't care about ST, but the truth is that they are unable to moderate ST. So maybe the person you should be complaining to is cg for not adding moderation to ST, and not the mods.

I have already donated hundreds of games. I also don't see what donating has to do with moderating or allowing a site to be unmoderated and therefore allowing scammers free reign.

Not having moderation in ST is akin to those gambling site owners not disclosing they own the site. It allowed them to profit over it. One has to wonder if that is the situation here as well.

Remove moderation and proceed to scam people. Profit.

I think there are 2 cases that are widely different. SG and ST do not have a subscription / donating system, so the only way to use the website is in its free form, which is the only form. If we were talking about a website that offers those things, I think what you're saying would have made more sense, because then you could use it either in its free or paid form. But the people using it in its free form would still have the right to complain, whether they would be heard or not is another issue.

Easiest solution is apparently this recommendation, which was probably spawned by the very lack of a viable fix.

Ignore scammers, don't get involved with them or in suspicious trade activities much less you're not the town sherif ...
if you're involved, report them wherever you can and forget about the rest. It can't be helped with whats given, enough
scammers to go around and a endless supply of people who will get scammed as they haven't gone the length to check
and make sure first, to at least minimize the risk, that usually isn't a big deal to them. Let them learn their lesson/s.

There is a reputation system ... to brand the worst town rapists and
to make evident who's the ally-merchant® and the regular user.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That would be true for the most part but its not.

Given a few days or weeks , user now has enough fake rep to scam a few people before they catch up.

Permalink

I'd repeat this magic chant lol:

Let them learn their lesson/s.

Going to stick with that - i wouldn't buy from anyone unless i know where they were able to pinch out the pennies for
price their willing to offer. Simple as that - just recently one of those bums added me at random to offer me games
wasn't even looking for at insanely low offers and rather odd suggestions. IDK i have a good sense for bullshit, haven't
gotten scammed once on st.

Best you can do is to point newcomers you interact with to the right direction e.g., so they at least avoid the most common scams. As for the others - don't know, don't care, i'm not a babysitter, and neither are you. You's a good guy for caring ... but you're not doing yourself any favor, with whats given.

Fake rep is being removed anyway, with the review function (afaik).

There is no requirements to create an account, so even if a scammer gets banned he can easily join with another one as it already happens.

And I'll say it again, no one is willing to moderate that poop. The moderators on the site are volunteering and that's what you seem to forget. Have luck finding someone capable who is willing to do so for a website that is filled with scammers, kids, impersonators and a bunch of fake reps.

Let's not forget that the website grew a lot since the SGv2 launch, which contributed to Steamtrades' downfall.

Quit trying to act like the bad-asses that you aren't.

Wouldn't it be just easier to clink a link to another discussion and move on? Or go masturbate? Or just go?

Steamtrades has been a P.O.S. for quite a while now and I doubt you will see much improvement so get over it. Maybe next time do a search for similar topics instead of beating this dead horse and riling people up again by making yet another topic about it. The statement by the staff and site owner has been clear to the rest of us for a long time. It doesn't need to be re-hashed.

I used to use steamtrades a lot. It's obviously worse now but it's always had problems with abuse of feedback, scammers and users too greedy or stupid to use basic common sense when making a trade that is clearly too good to be true. Moderation can't prevent many of those problems and often can't fix them - and given the endless backlog of tickets it was effectively becoming unmoderated anyway. I can understand wanting to shift to community moderation as a swifter maintenance-free alternative, although I really can't understand dropping entry requirements that has led to the current lawless alt-account free-for-all.

But regardless - mods here are clearly hands-off now and if I was them I wouldn't want it any other way!
