Happy birthday. We could get all technical and look at life expectancies and how people age at different rates due to genetics but really what is most important is how old you feel you are. =)

I always feel strange on some birthdays myself because I often diverge from what I always expected from a person that age before.

Well, it depends on your country I guess. Here in Russia life expectancy for a man is around 60 years… so 50 hardly can be a middle age.

But for me 40 is like a life start. You get shit together by that age, gather some experience and can finally decide/do something that you wanted to do.

Understandable that a man whose age is usually connected with wisdom would call it middleage but a woman where aging is always connected with loss of beauty and desirebility doesn't like that ;)

As about middle age - i dont think that it is connected to your actual age.
Some people act like oldman at 30, and some can be young even past 50.

Depends on your country - Some have higher life expectancy than others.
Average in Australia is mid 70's for Males and late 80's for Females.
Married Men tend to live longer than unmarried - apparently the sheer will power of the wife keeps the man alive just to punish him a bit longer.
Genetics also plays a key - The average life expectancy for a male in my family is 60 - we tend to pass early due to the nagging of our wiv.. err I mean the chosen jobs we pursue... and the copious amounts of alcohol we consume...

I turned 37 today and boy, do I feel old.

Well, if you don't have plans to live more than 80 years you can consider yourself a middle aged man, but let's hope you'll reach at least level 100 before the best ending. ;)
