Well, why don't you do something about it? Ask people to post something interesting instead - to answer a question, for example.

Well, from now on I'll leave a joke instead of "thanks".

People write "thanks" either because they are thankful or because they want to make their entries/comments ratio better. Good ratio is an entry requirement in many GA focused groups. People won't stop writing it only 'cause you find it annoying.
