Why would you get your points back if the giver has a change of heart? Although if dealerships would replace a new off the lot car that got t-boned, I'd be pretty impressed with them. In the case of not received, the giveaway is still valid and existing. When it's deleted, then the points will be refunded.

No idea, but it's better than wasting points. Plus, I save it for later. I'm waiting til after the exams to get a better laptop so I can complete the games I own (that I can't run on my current laptop). And then, I may have time for those. And oh, I forgot to mention, I don't always do that.

I tend to avoid giveaways for AAA games with thousands of entrants unless I have a load of points to burn. AAA games with not many entrants because there's a higher CV, or because the giveaway is only open an hour or 2 are different! :p
I sometimes avoid giveaways that look suspicious to me.
Newbies (I'm kind of one myself) creating a giveaway for a newly released AAA title without saying anything in the description can tick both boxes. I've been known to avoid giveaways like those, choosing instead to enter for some bundled games I'm interested in.

I enter for games I'm interested in playing. Points are free and stuck to 300 most of the time anyway so I don't care if the giveaway looks suspicious or not. I'll be disappointed if I win and it turns out to be a fake, but I don't really lose anything since I haven't spent anything either beside the free ever flowing points.

Yes, I keep trying to win one of those "this guy doesn't understand how steamgifts works" giveaways, without success. :(
I think once you stop trying to win every game in sight, and just try for things you would enjoy, there's not much else to try for - you'll have 300 points constantly. Also it's a public service, if I win that fake call of duty giveaway, there's one fewer heartbroken teenager in the world. :)
What I'm worried about though is winning a fake call of duty giveaway that turns out to be real. Oops. :)

As a result of filtering giveaways myself, I get so many extra points that I enter whatever giveaway there is for games I'd like to have.
Statistically speaking, I win so few giveaways that for me winning a fake one is close to impossible; and I wouldn't care about getting my points back anyway; I forgot what it's like to have 0 points.

I'm using SG+ and as a result most of the giveaways are filtered out. Nearly 50% of the giveaways I still see are giveaways from people who just made a account recently, entered just a few giveaways and just created their first giveaway. Those with expensive games are even more suspicious.
Are you entering those? And is it true that, if the winner marks the game as not received everybody who entered gets their points back?
