I've never encountered a bug in X-Com, that would make me dislike the game. It's usually clipping issues and stuff like that, nothing important. On the other hand, I have some fps issues with BL2, especially while playing online (the game starts lagging for me sometimes, even as I set all setting on low - though my PC is definitely powerful enough). But both games are great nonetheless and so far I had fun playing them.

Bl is mindless fun. Basically an fps with a skill tree. The RPG elements are borderline nonexistant.
Having both, I would pick Xcom any time of the day over BL just because the borderlands experience so to speaks grows old (for me at last) after around 20h ... xcom is more varied and interesting for me, also by now plenty of modds have come out to make the experience closer to what the original was. I am on my 2nd playthrough at the moment...

In US it cost 10$, you can buy tf2 keys and ask a US or Canadian person to buy it to your for 6 keys for example. You will spend less. And there is not currently any deal to get it cheaper I got mine for 6โฌ on GMG on winter Sale, but I used the 30% discount Coupon + 2โฌ credit, to make it just 6โฌ, I totally sure you won't find it for this price at this moment, the best deal is 10$ on Steam.

Well, both games will last you a long time. And as much as it pains me to suggest a FPS over a TBS, I'd say Borderlands 2. I usually don't got to crazy for FPS games, but that one tickled me in all the right places. I've sunk 50+ hours into BL2 so far and haven't finished it yet, there's just so much fun shit to do, and I haven't even bought any kind of DLC yet.
But if you're in the mood for something a bit slower paced, you are not making a bad choice with Xcom.

I loved XCOM. UFO Defense was all I played when I was younger. I was a bit let down with how modding has been handled with XCOM, which turned me off to the game after ~40 hours of playtime. I just bought Borderlands 2, but if it's anything like the first, I'm going to get lost in it.

Which one should I get first? I liked both the first Borderlands and XCOM-like games (UFO series), so it's a tough choice for me. The XCOM deal seems better (75% off), but I hear there are still many bugs present and that developers don't care about fixing them, as well as the lack of any additional content. On the other hand, Borderlands 2 had a better deal on GMG (with Season Pass), and at one point it will surely happen again.
BTW here's little something for you guys. :)
Edit: I got Borderlands 2, thanks everyone. :)
