It feels really strange to quit a game i've put over 1400 hours in. I am just sick of it, but it just feels so weird. TF2 was such a great friend to me over these past 3 years. So many laughs and joys, great times in-game and bad times in-game. It just feels odd to just, get rid of all of my tf2 items and just be like "yeah, i'm done with you tf2. Thank you for everything, but, i'm done here."

Anyone else have some kind of hard send-offs with games they were really fond off?

I really have no idea what anyone is talking about. I'm not mad at tf2, i'm legitimately just sick of this game. I'm tired of playing it and I literally do not want to play it or see it anymore. Not any fault due to the game, I am legitimately just personally done with this video game. It's still a very good and very fun video game, however i'm sick of playing it and I don't want to have it involved in my life now.

to me it was playing in pvp with randoms, i know i'm bad but at least i try to follow orders or play what i was supposed to (no carrying with a support!). but the community is so toxic that made me quit after constant insults and trolling.
so now i stick to playing bots or wait till i can get 9 friends to make a private match. -_-

I think OP should buy some hats IRL to soften the withdrawal syndrome symptoms. Start with wearing 3-5 hats at the same time and eventually over the period of 6 months gradually get to 1 hat.

i played 1000+ in Ghost Recons phantoms. It was hard to stop playing even after I decided to stop one time but, Ubisoft solved this problem for me by being the shitty support & crazy promotional ideas..lies about game updates..at last I stopped caring. deleted game. still feel sometimes I'm missing it. Game was good..but then I remember ubisofts strategies and i wonder why the hell was i putting up with such blatant p2w model in the first place..
same about loadout 300+ & developers decided to change core of game to accommodate console players..

Crappy wireless connection means I couldn't get back into it if I wanted to.

Left it after around three good years myself. But that was probably three years ago! :D (whenever the Mann vs Machine thing got added -- still never even tried that) Played it a handful of times since, and it's been alright -- but there's no addiction. Plus, with all the weapons/items that get added, eventually it won't even feel like the game you used to play, and so yeah, you won't want to play it -- knowing you'd have to re-invest even more time to get re-acclimated to all the new mechanics. It's a good system for longevity for the people who keep playing, but bad for those who'd only like to play occasionally. (Pretty much the exact reason I bailed on Magic: the Gathering long ago, come to think of it...)

The majority of my "3,346.8 hrs on record" are real gameplay hours -- didn't idle much because I was morally against it until it became clear that Valve didn't care that people were doing it and then I put in idle time fairly regularly for a couple months. But I probably had 1000+ hours before Steam tracked hours too.

You don't really have to learn new weapons in tf2 and that didn't really contribute to why I left. I think some of the new weapons are stupid, but whatever. Stock for the most part is considerably the best in the game, so learning new weapons is kind of pointless to me when they probably won't be used in competitive play excluding special situations.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I switched classes and loadouts a lot depending on map, teammates, and objectives. Also, I bailed long enough ago that there were still new gameplay balance changes with each update.

I played WoW since vanilla and quit on Mists of Pandaria (expansion before the current). I just had enough of it. I like the game, but everytime I had free time, I would play it, so I could never play anything else, and my backlog of games was piling up. So one day I just decided to stop and go play something else. I don't really miss it, but I really like the warcraft lore, so I would like to see the new expansion, the quest line at least. But not enough to make me buy the expansion, and pay the subscription. To be honest, even if it was free, I think I wouldn't go back to play it. :P

I don't care about realistic graphics, i'd like a game to look nice. But "realism" doesn't really matter over great game mechanics. Team Fortress 2 used to be a very stylish game and it looked quite nice and I loved it. Though my memories of that have been rather ruined by a incoherent mish-mash of unfitting themes and effects and sounds and new miscellaneous items and taunts. Really everything has been rather ruined and I particularly don't really appreciate that what the style has been most certainly ruined.

Hm from where to start...

  1. Tales of Pirates - ~1300hours .. quited because devs kept increasing the difference between free and paying users( at least the community was nice and helping each other).

  2. Battle of the Immortals - ~700h - crappy publisher and selfish community.

  3. Molten WoW(yeah yeah, its a private server but back in High School I couldnt justfiy paying $15/m just to play on the weekends) - ~1000 hours till guild disband.

  4. Guild Wars 2 - 3008 hours - After changing to masteries and adding NPE I just stopped playing... didnt really like the direction in which the game went + game felt as chore at some point...

  5. League of Legends - ~1400 hours - once everybody wants you to follow the meta even in normal games I lost desire to even bother.

  6. Warframe - ~600hours - Adding a little PvP in PvE modes? what could possibly go wrong ...

  7. Dota 2 - 900 hours - I just spent a bit too much on tournaments to watch with almost no free time... still a good game.

So yeah - almost an year worth of playtime spent in MMOs/Mobas and yet I still keep playing CS:GO(idle the shit ouf of it for drop + here there casual playing), TF2 - for times when I just want to do something silly and Firefall - once you go MMO,its hard to come back(unless you play co-op games with friends).

Ultima Online. I honestly don't know how much time I spent in that game, but it was a lot. The game itself was pants, don't let anyone tell you anything else, but the community that was built around it was great. But after several years, I just felt that I had seen everything the game had to offer, and with the shrinking community, I was not having nearly as much fun as I used to, so I finally quit. I still think back on many of the great moments I had in the game, with great people, but those great people are no longer playing the game. I re-activated my account during a free month that was offered a while ago, and the game was a ghost town. A handful of people were still around, even some that I recognized, but it was mostly dead.

I guess Borderlands 2, though I haven't actually "quit" it yet. While I have little to do myself in it anymore (don't feel like maxing out any characters other than my own), those 650 hours were spend nearly entirely as a single player game (with very short-lived attempts to play it online with random people). When me and the friends I promised to play it co-op with finally organize to finish Borderlands 1 and then go ahead to Borderlands 2 I'll be back in it full force. I expect quite the different experience when I'm not on my own. :D

EDIT: Oh, going back further in time, I thought of 2 better examples:
1) Rusty Hearts. While I only spend 470 hours in this "MMO" (honestly it's not all that much "massive" to be called an MMO), it definitely was the worst way to fall apart with a game. It was a nice and reasonably fun game (which is rare as fuck as far as MMOs go) but it got completely ditched by its developers. They barely had any updates and every time they made a bug fix it just ended up causing dozens of new bugs to pop out. Eventually I couldn't take their bullshit anymore and I just stopped playing it, like many other players who used to play it. In more recent times I heard that they decided to shut down the game- a real shame and prime example of how crappy neglecting developers can run a good idea to the ground.
2) RuneScape. Yeah, another MMO. Used to be nice... a few years ago. This is the MMO that had a strict "No real world trading", aka "NO Microtransactions" policy. Everything was fine with it. Then the company's CEO retired and was replaced by another one. Along with the many changes that made the game lose its identity more and more to look like any other generic MMO, the introduction to what was essentially microtransaction gambling was just the last straw. Me and many other players quit at about that point. I have been checking out news about the game once in a while and it would seem they have added even more microtransactions to it (while desperately dodging the question of why they broke one of their main policies or sweeping said policy's existence under the rug)... So, what did everyone learn from this experience? Greed can corrupt anything!
Well, that was kinda rage-y. I'll stop writing now. :/
