I did make back-up of some old files some time ago but unfortunately I haven't for newer files. Luckily not anything that would seriously affect my life but still pretty important and I'm very sad to lose.

Try to follow the Ambiphonic advice and use a freeware/software to recover a part of your data. The sooner the better !

There's one for free right now: https://sharewareonsale.com/s/free-magoshare-data-recovery-100-discount

Thank you for your well wishes, I'm glad you found a job that you like. I hope that tomorrow will be better too.

Hmm, far fetched but might be possible to use a file recovery program, might be able to get some of your files back? Not trying to get your hopes up tho
Comment has been collapsed.
That's a good idea, I'll try to find some. Hopefully I can get them back, if not all then at least the most important ones.

Not so farfetched. Most formatting is table/metadata only. If you stop using the drive immediately you can get back nearly all the data.

I've use freeware called Glary Utilities with some success with file recovery, but that is one if it's secondary functions. You can probably find something better for free as well.

Yes, but sometimes it comes back all gobbleygook, and if it has already been overwritten it is gone, sometimes a swap file can wipe out 20 gigs first time you boot up

Yeah, well, you'd need to mount it in another system or use a bootable CD/DVD OS to avoid overwriting, and have another drive to copy the good data to. Still, filenames/directories are probably gone.

Hello, it seems some freewares / softwares exist to recover part of data after driver formatted, did you try them ?

Or maybe a computer specialist could help you ?
I accidentally deleted a full drive once. >.<
Well recuva didn't recover all but it recovered a part.
Prepare a tea or something you like, breathe, take your time to evaluate the situation.
Worst situation, go sleep and hopefully next day won't be as shitty as today.

I'm not really familiar with these things, I only got a computer of my own not long ago. That seems like a very helpful link, thank you!
When I was younger I used to go to sleep hoping sleeping would reset every bad things and would make the next day better. I'm too old for that now but believing harms no one.

Okay, I think...
Yesterday I had a party here and how older one gets how longer the recuperation takes. ^^

Age gets to all of us, I hope you are fine now and that the party was fun.

I am, thank you. The party was a lot of fun, outside in my garden with family, close friends and neighbors, a bbq and sunny weather (22°C).

A recovery software will help, sooner you try to recover files - more chances that every single file will be recovered. Although seems like you already reinstalled your OS so some files are lost already.

I haven't reinstalled yet, so hopefully I can get some back.

Try some data recovery software if it's not your main drive.

Thanks for the explaination, I still get some English words mixed up. I know what depression is like, I have had moments like that. I do have an external hard drive my sister gave me but I usually only use it to store study materials, I will use it more from now on.

You should try "PC Inspector File Recovery". I used it yesterday to recover some deleted files from a USB Drive (I deleted the wrong folder ...).
Hope it will work for you.
Oh, and sad bump. :(

I'm trying out Recuva, I'll check that out too if this doesn't work. Thanks!

You can try recuva

Trying it out now (actually maybe tomorrow, it's late here), I hope it will work.

That's terrible, I hope the fires are quickly dealt with and the casualty isn't too bad.

I spent 3.5 hours to start up my PC...the MB is having problems with the 2x4-pin connector (ASUS B85-PLUS), and I'm having a hard time acquiring a similar one so I don't have to reactivate/-install Windows on it. The POST does not get executed. Sometimes it starts up for like the 3-4th attempt, but today it took 3.5 hours.
Where did my first visit take me? Here 😆
But buddy, your problem is waaaaay worse than mine. Losing all your data...would cause me a heart attack, I'm pretty sure. For now I just need an "IT.-crashcart" LOL.

Happened to me once, formatted an old laptop hard drive that had all photos from past holidays. I was sure I had another copy on my desktop. I reinstalled the OS and started using it. After several days I realised I didn't have a backup copy of the photos D: I tried to recover something from the drive, but almost everything had been overwritten. I kept that for myself for a while.
Luckily, some months later my brother came home (he lives abroad) and brought his laptop... he had a copy of everything! I was safe!
Now I keep all my photos (and all other unique data) in three different places. I guess you never learn until you make a real mess... I'm sorry about that.

I hope tomorrow will be a better day for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll be able to recover at least some of the files! Take care!:(

That's pretty accurate lol. I'm still so inexperienced with computer stuff.

I used some data recovery programs and it worked. I appreciate the advice though, will consider it if things get worse in the future. Thanks for the nice image too, awww.

Wonderful news! Thank you for letting me know. I hope you have a better day today-- random Internet strangers care!

Thankfully nothing irreplaceable aside from some homework and I was able to recover them, thank you for the well wishes!

I accidentally formatted my driver and now I lost all my files, and the other day work was busy and I made so many mistakes. Now I'm pretty depressed. How was your day? Week? I hope it's better than mine.
Have a giveaway.
EDIT: Thank you for the people who recomended some data recovery software, I was able to recover my important files which I'm really happy about! It's getting a bit better and I'll try my best so it can get better still :).
