Extra Copies Packs Hint

If you get Orange Box, Valve Pack or any other pack from The great gift pile, you have some of the games, and you activate the pack, you will NOT receive any extra-copies. There's something wrong.

Not really anything different from normal. If you buy a developer bundle and already have some of the games in it you will be charged the full price and I don't believe you get any extra copies of the games you already have.

Only Half-Life, Left4dead and some other few games packs have this policy. Read on their site.

How do I receive extra copies to share with friends?
Extra copies will only be issued as a special promotion in the following specific cases:

Users who own “Half-Life 2” and go on to purchase “The Orange Box” or the "Valve Complete Pack" will receive an extra copy of “Half-Life 2”.
Users who own “Half-Life 2: Episode One” and then go on to purchase the "Half-Life 2: Episode Pack”, “Valve Complete Pack” or “The Orange Box” will receive an extra copy of “Half-Life 2: Episode One”.

Exactly. I had HL2 and Episode 1, and when I activated the Orange Box.. BOOM! No extra-copies.

"“Half-Life 2” and “Half-Life 2: Episode One” are only eligible to receive extra copies once.

For example, if you own “Half-Life 2” and/or ”Half-Life 2: Episode One” and receive extra copies for your purchase of “The Orange Box”, you will not receive additional extra copies if you then go on to purchase the “Valve Complete Pack”."

i have half life portal and tf2 in my library, and an orange box gift. i wanted to open the box so i could get extra copies, but does this mean i wont get the extra copies?

As far as I'm aware this is normal, you have to have actually purchased the Orange Box/Valve pack yourself in order to receive the extra gifts. I don't think gifted copies ever gave any extras.
