I heard mention of TF2 items being given away if you have Linux installed. Anybody know more info about that?

I was also hoping for more information regarding what items you received.

And is it really that simple? :D

You get some penguin plushie item, or something. Only the one item.

And yes, it really is that simple. I'd use mint, I know valve says Ubuntu, but I believe that is just full of adware.

penguin plushie... that sounds awesome =D

Anyone know if it's tradable? I don't really play TF2 but my brother does. He'd probably find some use for it lol

It might be after the event.

The event lasts the duration of the linux sale? So I can potentially wait a day to install Linux right?

You've got the whole month.

I meant the Tux event. The sale ends at February 21, but the Tux event ends at March 1st.

If you play TF2 on Linux from now to March 1, iirc, you get an ingame Tux (Linux penguin) to wear on your lower back.

If you run TF2 on Linux you get a TF2 item of Tux.

On my quest to get this TF2 item (and to try some other Linux compatible games) I've set up a bootable Ubuntu USB stick, only to find out that you can't change the installation path of TF2 and that my 10 GB stick is too small for Ubuntu + TF2 sigh

Hmmm I wonder if my 16gb flash stick could hold TF2 + Ubuntu...

Probably not, I'll just put it on an external to be safe.

You should be fine. You need 2 GB for Ubuntu + 12 GB for TF2. But if you've got a spare external HDD, you can run your Ubuntu from there to be on the safe side ;)

As I've stated in the previous thread, have you tried linking the big files to windows?

Oh there was a previous thread? embarassed

I'm usually on the forums enough that I don't miss many threads, didn't even bother to search before creating this one. Sorry!

No, haven't tried that yet, but I've got 2 more weeks for such experiments =)
But for today I've given up.

It took me long enough to get it working in the first place.
Changing boot order in bios = 4 tries, because my bios not only has a "select boot priority", but also a "select device priority" (don't remember the exact names, sorry. in the first option I can select USB/HDD/CD/... in the second option I can select plugged in devices based on their name)
Universal USB Installer + Ubuntu 12.10 64bit = "Boot failure : No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!"
unetbootin + Ubuntu 12.04.02 = worked after 3 tries

Forgive me, I've spent the last 5 minutes searching for 'tf2' 'tux' 'linux' etc. and can't find the thread you mean?

Care to link?
