Pens can fail on me for no discernible reason. And the ways to fix them are chancy at best. And they (usually) can't be erased, causing errors to just stick out.
If the lead can be seen on a pencil's edge, it'll work; no ifs, and's or but's.

Pen is near impossible to use on things like stained wood, painted walls, concrete, ceramic tile, and roofing shingles. :X

i only write on paper ;)
and sometimes on vials or glass - permanent marker (which is close to pens)

i like blue markers
i like #2 pencils with nice erasers, not that cheap hard,squeaky ,ear-rape,black-smudging, cheapo-erasers
i like blue ball point pens.
not a fan of fountain pens, the way i right, makes it smudge everywhere! :<

mine is usually a fabric pen, which rubs out with friction only from a piece of plastic - such as the tip of a stylus (so not really a pen), or chalk/chalk roller pens :) - oh and burpety burp
