Merry christmas everyone! long story short, i have added 10 euros into my steam wallet and so far added:
Divine divinity
Beyond Divinity
Lionheart legacy of the crusader
Arcanum
Into my shopping cart.
I have 4 euros spare and would like to hear if any of you pals have any recommendations of what else could i add to the cart, isometric RPG would be ideal, but not the diablo style. Or maybe there is a good (under 4 euro) deal on AAA title someone has picked up and wants to share? i have seen just cause 3 for 4,49, but iam 50 cents short XD

I'll throw in some old skool stuff, since that's my forte and recomend the Eschalon series.

Here is the link to Eschalon - Book I. Book I is currently free, Books II and III can be bought for 7,5€, as a part of the collection.

It's a 2D isometric RPG with a strong old school vibe to it (hence the 2D graphics). It has decent visuals, a nice story, a pretty simple combat system and several classes to choose from, which can be developed as you see fit (although it's better to play to your class' strengths, obviously). Reviews are also very positive. Since it's free, all it will cost to try it out is some of your time.

In any case, good luck finding something to your liking, a lot of solid suggestions in this thread.

Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate are some of the most famous
There's also :

  • Septerra Core
  • Silver
  • Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen
  • YS series (mostly action RPG like the classic Zeldas)

If you would like something different, I recommend Lords of Magic. It has RTS elements, but once you get inside a dungeon or battle it shifts to isometric RPG.

Good luck finding "Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen" anywhere for 4€ or less :D The game is also pretty tough and not all that fun really, and that's coming from someone who's played all of the Legacy of Kain games which I did like.

Edit: I forgot you can technically buy it for less than 4€ on the PS3 :p

I also found a physical PS1 copy a few years back on ebay and I paid US$1, so it isn't completely impossible.
You can also buy it on PSN and play it on the PS3, PSP and vita, as you said. BO1 gameplay is painfully outdated nowadays, but I particularly enjoy the Legacy of Kain series' story. I really wished they released a remake or something like that (and now it belongs to Square Enix)

How about Balrum?

The Avadon series is decent too, for what it is. :)

Excellent choice! I've come across Balrum sometime ago but I rarely read about anyone talking about it. :)

Well, it's probably because it isn't as good as it should be. :P
It's still good, just not amazing.

Oh for sure, it looks great but if you read the reviews on Steam it has some flaws or, at least, it's a bit difficult to get into. :)

Cheers!

Fight the Dragon is very adorable and you can play community maps, create your maps and story. This game is infinite and have a lovely leveling system, it's a shame that i discovered about it just this year!

FATE is a good one I've played before. It is currently 7 euro, but is a great game. Developed by some members of the Diablo II team, so there's that.

Maybe The Bard's Tale is to your liking as well.
Dragon Age series are nice too.

You can zoom out the battlefields to make it isometric. In some rare circumstances a different view offers some better management, but it should be doable.

Giantbomb has screenshots like this too. I guess not standard isometric, but far enough that the focus is on the group and positioning, not on an individual. Hopefully far enough from spiders, too? Dunno about the later games.

hella curious, here, jim... sorry

you actually can't play those games, or they're hard, very hard to play?
do you fear spiders IRL? have you ever killed one/do you usually kill them, IRL?

i hardly get horrified by games, tho can't really play some cause of dizziness...

Don't get your hopes too high, but there are (or at least were) anti-spider mods, changing them to different enemies. Maybe there are some around, that still work.

Origins and 2nd game seems to have multiple mods to find a working one :)

I don't suffer from arachnophobia at all (on the contrary, I find many of these little guys really cute), but an idea of invisible spiders is still a bit uncomfortable, yep :)

Joining others in recommending the Shadowrun series. They're on the short, easy side when compared to the likes of Arcanum, but they're enjoyable and the writing is great.

Aside from the other mentioned above I would like to add this game which is highly rated on steam.

Kult Heretic Kingdoms

Atom RPG,very similar to first 2 Fallout games. Pretty cheap for all that you get. Has a lot of hours of game play, pretty fun but can be hard at the beginning if you like a bit of a challenge.

Good old RPG games Sacred 1 and 2 completely missed in this thread.
I spent so many hours in these games when they released. Still good memories.

Age of Decadence is the best (too hard for me, but I really like it). Aarklash is also good (story is not the strong point, combat and characters are)

Check out Satellite Reign I had a great time with it. It's more on the strategy side than RPG but it's still really good. And cheap.
