These games are mostly freeware / abandonware. You don't need a GOG account to get them for free. o.O

Abandonware is a synonym for pirated software. You're right though - most of these games are freeware.

You're right. Distribution of abandonware is illegal, it's still copyrighted. Acquiring those games through GOG maybe the better alternative. :D

(But abandonware =/= warez, no finacial harm is done to the copyright holders.)

Nope, they aren't abandonware. Nothing on GoG can considered as abandonware.

Same moment they are sold at GoG they aren't abandoned anymore ;D

What he meant is that they won't be automatically added if they were made available for free after you registered, and you have to add them manually.

Treasure Adventure Game was one of the coolest games I've ever played, and it just so happens to be freeware. It's a really awesome metroidvania/platformer/etc. http://www.robitstudios.com/treasure-adventure-game/

A few were added automatically for me but there were also a couple i had to "buy" for free manually.

No, GOG is DRM free only. Which rules out anything Steam.

They were giving away fallout 1 for a while too.. Glad I snagged that, also FYI most of these games are available for free on a TON of different sites. However GOG is special 'cuz you get all those nerdy extras.

Somewhat related - the entire Interplay Catalogue (32 games) for $35 promotion is still running. It's a fair amount of money, but worth getting if you don't have Fallout, Fallout 2, Sacrifice, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, MDK, MDK2, Descent or Earthworm Jim yet.
