I'm pretty sure on Windows 8, I had no errors like that, even when I use my old PC with 2GB Ram, Intel Pentium IV and NVidia 9400GT! Now I'm on 4GB RAM with Radeon 8800M, i7 Quad-core CPU. When I was using Windows 8, I was admiring the beauty of the games. And then... I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and... "Out of Memory" errors keep popping up every now and then when I play games, if I leave it there (as in, just leave the windows there, carry on playing tha games), the error windows would stay there and I can flawlessly continue on playing the games, then... a while later, the game will shut down and die, I meant crash.

Anyone encountering similar problems with Windows 8.1?

Same error here, I just updated. And I regret it.

That's indeed a big problem, I'm trying to get all my drivers updated to 8.1 compatible from my laptop's website, I hope that would work...
After this post, I looked around somewhere and some people said running the games with Windows 7 compatibility seems to work, I haven't tested it, though.

I got that message once when I was still on Windows 8, but that's quite a while ago. I haven't gotten it on 8.1.

After many days of researching, I bumped into many threads about this problem around the internet.. including this one.

It seems to me, that the problem mostly occurs for people who upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 and have a system with intel integrated graphics + a dedicated graphics card with graphics switching technology. (most people who are complaining have an nvidia card alongside the integrated intel one.. but thtas probably just becasue most laptops with graphics switchin are nvidia based laptops, the culprit seems to be intel's 8.1 drivers.. or a lack of them)

Hmm... I see, I also did see many such cases. I reverted back to 8 and problems gone, so the drivers really seem to be the problem.

I didn't get to try it that much, i just updated to 8.1, but lost all sound. Tried reinstalling drivers and looked around for a fix, but no go, ended going back to a win8 image i made. I'll try again in the future

still, i do get some "you should close some programs" warnings when using win8, i increased pagefile to see i fthey keep coming up

I reverted back to Windows 8 the other day, and it's fine now. Maybe you should set the pagefile to System Managed for the main drive.

problem is that way it takes 5gb of my ssd xd, so i set it to dinaymically increase the size if needed, i think that should do it

I noticed, during the preview time too, that upgrading from 8 to 8.1 brings a lot of errors. A clean install however works flawlessly. So unless you did an upgrade you should be fine.

Overall, for me 8.1 rarely uses more than 3 GB of RAM. The highest I had was a usage of 10GB but that was when I just started loading (allocating) a 40 GB torrent and also had several instances of 7z packing stuff.

Yeah. Annoying as hell.
The Nvidia and Intel HD graphics switching is killing me. Hopefully Intel will release an 8.1 compatible driver and SOON.

Playing the game in compatibility mode did lessen the number of low memory error pop ups but it did not eliminate it completely.

Haven't even updated yet. After the update that was released Oct 8th, Fallout: New Vegas either kept getting stuck on the loading screen or crashed a few minutes into the game. Whether I actually got past the loading screen or not seemed to be pure luck. I wish I'd tested it out more but I uninstalled the updates immediately and all my problems were fixed. Since then I haven't updated... This makes me not want to update even more...

Indeed, I reinstalled Windows 8 and everything is perfectly fine now, Windows still tell me to update sometimes, but only when I boot up.
