Do people blacklist for the hell of it?
Look on the bright side. There are more than a million users on SG. You have been blacklisted only 5 times. It changes nothing (even though most users do not use SG).

Discussing blacklists is not only spammy, it can potentially come across as petulant, childish, self-absorbed, entitled, and/or greedy, depending on presentation and interpretation. As such, it's generally highly recommended not to bring up blacklisting on the forums (as, even if someone doesn't interpret something negative out of it, the spam factor alone may end up getting you more blacklists).
[Note: You can close your thread by clicking the 'Open' in the top right. If you're honestly curious about the matter, there are plenty of previous threads on the topic (I'd recommend a google search of "why blacklist site:steamgifts.com"), or you could try opening a new thread which approaches the topic in a manner that skirts the topic of blacklisting in favor of emphasizing inquiry toward the social behaviors behind it.]
To address your question- As a good rule of thumb of life, don't focus on what other people are doing unless it directly affects you or will directly affect you in the future (and no, blacklisting does not- in much the same way that someone deciding not to have sex with you simply removes potential, rather than afflicting you with anything, blacklisting is about the other person, not you). Instead, focus on why cg is encouraging needless drama by keeping up a blacklist counter in the first place. For example, it is quite possible that he has a fetish, one which involves covering himself head to toe in mayonnaise and butter while browsing the forums at night in search of references to blacklists. Until he communicates with us clearly on the matter, that's one possible assumption we are free to make.
In any case, no. People don't blacklist for the hell of it. To be more specific, people always have a reason behind what they do (regardless of how sensical the reason may actually be). People may snub you (on forums or in the rest of the world) because their perspectives differ from yours, because you were rude (perhaps without knowing it), because they made faulty assumptions about your actions, or because they have underlying negativity and an urge to express it, and you simply exhibited a trait they found irritating enough to consider meriting of such expression.
They may snub you simply because they're trying to focus on something else, and don't feel you'd be an appropriate fit for it, or because they got confused, made a mistake, or are playing a whimsical game we can't guess the rules to. They may take pleasure in attacking others, or they may be scared enough of being hurt themselves that they're gunshy around things that trigger them. All these things, of course, are true for any human you interact with, regardless of where you may encounter them.
The only difference between the forums and the rest of the world is that it's easier to know for sure you've been snubbed on the forums- in the real world, people tend to pretend to tolerate you when they must, and find excuses not to interact with you if they can. (In fact, if someone feels negative toward you, you can only hope that's the extent of their actions toward you.) If, like with you attempting to enter a giveaway on the forums, you were to knock on their front door and ask to be invited in, you may find an even more negative reaction than them simply not inviting you in.
Personally, what I find most problematic, is that people take issue with blacklisting like it's something different from whitelisting. It's all just mechanical tiers of inclusion and exclusion. I may potentially be on far more (or simply different) whitelists than you- would that be you being excluded, or are those individuals merely indicating they feel that there's potential for good communication between us? In the end, it's a certainty that the longer we interact with people, the more we form our relationships, both positive and negative.
There's never any cause for stress or negativity over such, unless someone is pushing their perceptions of you in a way that affects you (eg, by attacking you personally, speaking ill of others, spreading bigotry which affects you, etc); instead, just be glad that we have the ability to focus our attentions in productive ways- and on the forums, we don't have to worry about guessing if people are motivated to interact with us just due to forced circumstances. Blacklisting, whitelisting, it's all just a way to facilitate easier communication [be that communication for the sake of providing gifts in line with our perspectives toward such gifting, or for the sake of forming social bonds]. If someone isn't in line with your thinking, be glad for the fact that there's such a simple solution to social drama as being able to ignore and be ignored by someone. Certainly, in the non-online world, that's something we often can only wish for.

I am deeply concerned and intimidated by the half essay you wrote just for me. I just found it funny about the blacklists is all.

i don't believe you, i have seen at least two people in the past say they had whitelisted you (unless one of those people then decided to blacklist you)

As an advice, generally discussing being blacklisted on the forums leads to MORE blacklists, because whatever flaw a few people noticed (i.e. giving away a free HB game) is now exposed to a lot more people (i'd bet you are not at 5 blacklists anymore).

You can get blacklisted for almost everything.
Person does not like
Or you get blackilisted because you have won a giveaway from the person or some other stupid reason.
TL;DR: Everyone here gets blacklisted for something. It's normal.

Never really thought to that since most giveaways are drowned in them but I shall in future make sure to say thanks now :)

If it makes you feel better i don't blacklist , but some people will black list you , forget why they did it and claim that you blacklisted them first
