Assuming that you're one of the people who always fall for it anyway....

If you end up being one of the incredibly few rubes lucky enough to win something decent, please at least don't get suckered into coming back here and reporting it too. That's exactly what they count on to dupe even more people into lowering their inhibitions, succumbing to a litany of logical fallacies.

It's literally just gambling... albeit, a back alley variant that doesn't let you know the odds; lacks any enforceable regulations with independent oversight; and where the good wins always dry up after the first few reports somehow--at least until the sales start to dwindle, then it's rinse and repeat.

Exactly. Don't know the exact wording but: Gambling is the tax on the mathematical untalented. :)
Or to bring another thing: The house win every time!

Times i bought loot boxes: 0

Times i wasted my time and money: countless, on steam and everywhere else.

Well look at the bright side- whats one more dupe when we're duped from all sides?

Theres a difference of course. You know the saying... 'fool me once...'
Insisting on error doesn't do you well.

Heres a trick: avoid temptation.

Just don't ever look at loot boxes again.
Heck i wouldn't open this storepage at all.

Yeah, how about no? Spend the money on the steam sale and get something good. 1 good game is better than 30 shitty ones.

Wow, I fell for it again. I bought the level 30 and got old bundled games and a few titles that can't even be given on this site.

Just a follow up. I contacted GMG and told them that it was a complete waste of money for this bundle. I got all games that have been bundled before and at least 3 of them have been give away free. Sure the "retail" value of the game is a deal but actual value based on if you trade for the game or bought from a bundle splitter has the value of this at a large loss.

They said,
Thanks for getting in touch

We appreciate your feedback and I'm sorry to see you're disappointed not to get the game you wanted in a Loot Box.

With over 100 different games available through Loot Boxes this is way for players to find games they might not have considered. We recognise that not every game will appeal to everyone which is why these Loot Boxes are so heavily discounted.

If you're chasing one title in particular the best course of action is to buy it individually.

Haha i'm not surprised, even with the 'heavily' discounted prices they are still earning huge profits from this thing based on the games they are giving. Then after earning a decent profit to cover lost of 1 AAA key, they surprise it in some lucky fellow's lootbox. Seeing the list of the AAA games given, most of these keys are given out on various promotion before so its not even really that expensive on the secondary market. I believe the keys are given at a good bulk from the dev's at a very cheap promotion rate (perhaps even free?!) but they are making it look like the value is retail. Even if you win the GMG credit, only 500$ is actually worth it. 50$ can't even net you a fresh title given their discounts are not really all that great. Chances of a 500$ is probably 0.0000000000001%.

One winner comes with a thousand losers.

Wow, that's hefty prices for what we all know is in there. You really have to have too much money to be tempted to get one of those. In this case I'd recommend considering it giving it to some charity instead. At least you'll feel good afterwards.

Or, heck, spending it on a random game to give away from Humble Bundle and giving part of it to charity and getting CV. That would be a better idea too.

Of course it is. You really think a company would actually sell something at their loss? They do this because they make a profit; they make a profit because the odds of actually getting something worthwhile are very small... it's a lottery, in fact. Buy a ticket, hope you win. If you don't, you get a "consolation" prize.

This was my first time ever trying the GMG loot boxes. Never again GMG, you lost your damn chance.
The only things of value inside was "Cross of the Dutchman" and a $2 GMG Wallet Code.
There were several freebies, and nearly everything was absolute junk.

never buy mysterious bundles. There is a reason why humble bundle monthly has to reveal a good game to get people to buy it. 90% of mysterious bundles from groupees are dogshit. People like to gamble...but most of the mysterious bundles are shovelware...they even include games that have been given out for free. that's how scummy they are.

Gave up on them because the last few times. It's cheaper to just buy the game you want then to get a bunch of garbage.

I once got Overwatch in one of the ten-packs, but that is after doing it quite a lot throughout the years. After everything, I still lost a ton of money lol. It's technically possible, but the odds are incredibly low.

Maybe, but "At least I only got slapped in the face instead of punched in the stomach" is an odd way to look at it.
These 'random key' things have always been a way to get people to pay for items that were free at some point, and they do it by offering very little as the super rare reward.

I get the temptation, but if you keep the money and just buy something you want, you're guaranteed something good and you're not effectively overcharging yourself for 50 copies of Bad Rats. They're in the game for profit, and selling the unsellable by blindfolding people is how they make up for the very few things they give away that are worth it.

Ah well, at least you did get something precious from the random keys box. A lesson learned. I don't even mean that in a bad way. Hopefully this experience will make you hesitate the next time a site offers this kind of thing. At least, a site without the reputation to make it worth it. GoG actually did something like this at one point, but they were more transparent about the whole thing and apparently tried to weight the random draw so that it would favor titles you didn't own.

i will not hesitate because i didn't get it for the games, i just wanted to try my luck. there was no punch or slap, i knew what i was getting into before buying it and did it anyways becuse well i could.

sometimes getting something by pure luck feels better than buying it, regardeless of savings.

and yeah i agree their deal is shit but i wouldn't have put on the money if i didn't wanted to.
could i have bought anything from my wishlits ? sure. would i have got a good time ? who knows(some times a game is shit or doesn't click with you) does it matter if i overcharged myself ? it could but not at this point.

sometimes it isn't about the savings or getting what you want, sometime you just want to try luck.

of course they are in it for profit but also one shouldn't gamble when money matters

i don't feel robed or anything, hell even if all the games would have been junk i wouldn't feel like that because i knew that would most likely happen.

in short
i took a gamble because i wanted to gamble not because i wanted to win.

Fair enough. I mean I totally understand that impulse too, but I just find the odds are waaaaay too stacked against you in those random key things. Somehow getting a handful of previously free chaff-games feels worse than just getting nothing, like validation that you bought into their awful scheme, rather than a simple "you just weren't lucky this time".

I suppose it also works in my favor because I get that similar little indulgence just by browsing the steam store when browsing for what I want during a big sale. To be clear, I wasn't judging you, it was more a gripe-aside about the random key hosts. I couldn't judge you, once upon a time I did the same. ;P
