Extra Copy of Killing Floor -- Why?

I recently bought the Humble weekly bundle of Tripwire games at a BTA price. I already owned Killing Floor, but figured the extra few dollars for the DLCs was worth it. Today, I noticed an extra copy of Killing Floor in my inventory, and it's not a guest pass -- it's labeled as a "Tradable" "Steam Gift". Can anyone explain why I seem to have an extra copy of the base game, that I didn't think I was supposed to get? Thanks for your help.

Edit: I just looked at some notes I have, and think I know why I have the extra copy. Killing Floor was in Steam's Potato Sack Reunion pack, and that pack did seem to allow extra copies. The same goes for Steam's Games with Cubes pack, according to my notes. I guess I should have checked my notes first, but I guess we all know now. Thanks, everyone.

For those who said it must be a guest pass -- it's not. I also got two Killing Floor guest passes, and they're explicitly labeled as such. The item I'm asking about here is definitely different from those two.

As Incog said, that's not normally the case. Steam generally does not give you extra copies of games you already own. There are some exceptions, but I didn't think Killing Floor was one of them, that's why I'm asking about it.

You don't get extra copies by keys. Only if you buy a bundle from steam and you already have the game.

EDIT:Ah it is because it was Complete, so it just took out the dlc, and gave you an extra copy of the base game.

Thanks. :) Yes, my activity level here has gone down. Having bought more games over the past year or so, there are fewer giveaways here I want to enter, so I don't stop by as often as I used to. I still look and enter some now and then, but don't always get into the forums to chat. You can add me on Steam if you like; I don't always have it running, but it might be easier to get me there than here.

And yes, surprise extra copies are always good. :) I do like to figure out where they came from though.

Yes I really do miss seeing your avatar around the forums. You entered SG about the same time I did, so your face is one of the ones I definitely won't ever forget. Hmmm I think I'll take you up on your offer and add you, you should try chatting in the SG Chat, I'm most active on the chat.

I also don't join as many giveaways anymore (you see my entries for this month currently is 8), I tend to buy my own games, but I do like the community on this site, so I'd very much stay here ^_^.

Thanks again. My memory's not that good, unfortunately. Part of why I sort of left for a while was the contributor system change to simplify how bundles were handled -- I was negatively affected, and unfairly so since I never gave away bundle keys, and being considered acceptable collateral damage soured me on the site for a while. But I do like the forums here as a way to talk with other Steam users, and usually if I have some general kind of Steam-related question, I'll come here to ask or look for answers. I just don't come as much as when I first found the site. BTW, is there still a chat option here on SteamGifts? I'm not seeing it in my menu right now. I've got to go now, but maybe I'll talk to you later.

When the gold version of KF was released with Ash Harding as exclusive DLC (at taht time), Tripwire mentioned that any owner who activate the gold version on steam while they already had the game would see a gift copy in the invetory.
Should be related to that.

Oh, thanks for the info. I hadn't heard about this, but this is a possibility since the Humble key was for Killing Floor + DLCs. Or it's an extra from the Potato Sack Reunion, which I know gave me at least one extra copy in the past. Either way, I guess I've got it narrowed down pretty well and know that it (probably) wasn't a mistake.

well, Im confused, I have the base + community weapons + 1 skin pack and I dont know if i should activate it to get the rest of the dlcs. But hearing that it may give u extra copy of kf makes me activate it. People who activate the game and had already the base pls reply to this post and tell me if u got an extra copy. thx

You should not be getting an extra copy. Not sure how OP did, he thinks it may be from another bundle.

Fair warning, you do not get the Robot DLC or the Golden weapon pack DLC. Both skin DLCs (one for weapon, one for player). They do not change gameplay, and I'd say activate it because the DLCs alone cost more.

If you really don't care for skins then I guess you have no reason to activate it though.

I know about the 11 dlcs and I know what they do but if they give u extra copy in inventory its really worth it, even tho i play only with 1 character :) thx for ur info, guess Ill keep the key
