Too true. It's a little better in co-op, though.

I tried joining strangers on the net, and then this one guy he just one-shot a boss that was supposed to have high armor. Really ruined the whole boss experience.

First tip: Don't play with random strangers.
Second tip: Never, ever play with someone that has a higher or lower level than you. (To a certain point)

I feel like people would say this about 99% of FPS games if they lasted as long as this one size wise, most are like 10 hours and under so its hard to not be repetitive when you pass a 20-30 hour threshold.

What makes Borderlands 2 repetitive isn't that it's an FPS and that it's lengthy, there are plenty of FPSes that aren't repetitive such as Left 4 Dead 2, Insurgency, Killing Floor, Sven Co-op, Payday 2, etc that still provide great co-op experiences and you can easily achieve over 30 hours in.
The two key reasons why I find Borderlands 2 repetitive is due to the quests and the combat itself.
Every side quests either falls in "collect X for me" or "Kill X Y number of times", for a game that is also part RPG this is just inexcusable. Quests should be more varied, or at the very least have better stories that draw you in. Not only but unlike traditional quests in RPG where you enter a certain map you do a bunch of quests there and move up and possibly return there in the future Borderland 2 you're going to be visiting the places a lot if you want to do sidequests. I constantly found myself going back to the same maps I recently turned in quests all a handful of areas apart in the same level range.
And the combat itself while it is fast paced you can't you're going to have to slow it down once you progress through the game everything around you become bullet sponges. Now add how you're going to be forced into cover due the game throwing hordes of enemies and/or strong ones too to recover your health it also takes away from the experience especially in huge open maps where you will have to run to find cover and dying in the process at times.

I enjoy playing BL2 coop with friends. Perhaps that's because I approach the game as an FPS rather than an RPG?

All those games you listed are EXTREMELY repetitive to me, especially L4D2 and Killing Floor, much more so then BL2 or BL1.
Sure many of the quest follow that pattern but I actually enjoyed the little stories that went along with it, good example is the Irish clan war side quest line, had me glued, guess people see different dialog as interesting. Not everything was collect X or kill X amount, and honestly most games are this, some just hid it better. All the ones you listed do exactly the same things....(Except at least Borderlands has a pretty big game world to explore, especially with the DLC's...)
Idk I am level 30 right now and with some weapons can one shot even some of the more powerful weapons, I never once ran and used cover also....not sure why you are exactly. I actually find the game rather easy even with the hordes of enemies, its much easier then other FPS games with hordes, Serious Sam is one for an example...
Guess its all about how you view it....I never viewed it as an RPG but if I was going to I still don't see it worse then games like Skyrim in that respect....most quests also follow the kill this, collect this, etc....realm of questing.

Left 4 Dead 2 is pretty repetitive, that's why I only got about 13 hours on the game.

Yeah this one works like L4D right? Where you play the same set path on the same levels over and over? That's pretty much my definition of repetition.

Payday 2 is a bit smarter than L4d though. Some parts of the maps are always RNG, like some doors are open, different pathing every time, camera rooms are in different areas, camera's are not always at the same place, different server rooms etc etc. The game is also making sure that depending on how you act, the law enforcers will work in other ways. For example, if you tie up all civilians in a bank, you will have more hostages. If you have more hostages, the law enforcers will be more careful and take longer to order an assault. If you, however, kill x amount of civilians, the LE bosses will get furious and release the kraken (bulldozers) on you.
That said, it's still repetitive, but if you grew up with games like WoW (like i did), that is not really a problem. I've played it alot, about 700-800 hours, 200h of those are just from the beta. I'm max level (for now, there will be more levels to come) and i still enjoy it. It's alot of grinding if you want to get to the highest level, get the most badass stuff, have the most skill points, and have 100's of million dollars in your vault, but that's just if you want that. After reaching level 100, which doesn't take too long if you play with a good group on Firestarter/rats on pro-overkill, You'll hit that level in notime. Then you can go up in infamy (kinda like prestige) and start over again. Your character will now have a card in his hand, showing off his infamy level, and you'll get a I before your level to show off your infamy level. Currently, V-100 is the max level. Every infamy level will give you a small bonus, usually class specific, and a mask with some materials to it.
All this infamy stuff is not needed though, you can just stay at level 100 if you prefer it, It's not that much of a difference. The masks are pretty awesome, with some cool effects to them, but it's just for cosmetics.
God, why did i write all this T_T

Big fan probably is why you wrote it, haven't tried the 2nd one, didn't care much for the first though so thats probably why, sounds a bit better then L4D though...

You. I like you. It's good to see folks who're that passionate about their favorite games.

Killing Floor is not repetitive... WOW...I truly am surrounded by idiots...

He is right though....Killing Floor is repetitive, fun, yeah, actually its super fun and I can't wait for KF2 but it is repetitive, I don't think that makes it a bad game at all.
I like it better the L4D, the problem with me and that one is its repetitive and it feels like I am being pushed like in those Mario levels I hated where the leveled moved with you...its always the same direction going fast....ehh not my thing, super linear.
No reason to be called an idiot though, just opinions after all...

I don't find games like Killing Floor repetitive since you never the same game twice. Like the game might spawn 3 flesh pounds at the same time, etc. Even though you do the same things, you're not going to play the same matches over and over. Not saying other people can't find it repetitive.
"No reason to be called an idiot though, just opinions after all..."
masteryoda120988 insults people all the time whenever someone says anything positive or even neutral about Killing Floor. He hates it because it's not Left 4 Dead. It's really sad.

Idk guess people find different things repetitive, I got a couple playthroughs of BL1 before I felt it getting boring(Had it way before I had it on Steam), got 40 hours out of Killing Floor before that felt really repetitive to me. Still on my first playthrough of BL2, 30 or so hours in....I don't feel its as good as the first one though I am enjoying the ride nonetheless.

FPP: First Person Puzzle....not sure if anyone calls it that but it should have its own category by now since a couple games do the whole portal thing also now like Qube and others...

Its like playing mmo without the mmo part, plus it's bad both as fps (bad gunplay) and as rpg (crappy quests and story). The free2play fps mmos I tried actually played better and had better quests, that says something.
In an mmo you grind those fetch quests to get to high level and do some pvp or high end raids, in a sp/coop game?
Just lazy design. Personally I find this game series the most overrated thing in the last few years.

"bad gunplay"
Huh? If anything its really good and varied...honestly if it was bad I would not have so much fun with it, still F.E.A.R is my favorite when it comes to gun play, but it is nowhere near bad.
Might be a little overrated and I actually prefer the first one but its not some terrible game(Everything works as it should)...and most free to play MMO's I tried bored me to tears, hell even WoW bored me to tears and thats a pay one...

Might as well just use a crack or pirate it at that point...no? Not that I am endorsing piracy but what is the difference?
Comment has been collapsed.
Thats EXTREMELY rare with games, its not monitored like music and movies/TV and even that is really rare...
That would not be my reason not to pirate, if it was I would never cross a street also because better chance I got hit by a care then enough letters to activate a lawsuit(6 strike rule here...).
I know of one person who got one for downloading a movie(Think it was Borat) and he read it while currently downloading 20+ other movies while laughing, never effected him, that was years ago.

Already own the Game of the Year Edition and I beat it 3 times with 3 different classes(Commando Mechromancer and Gunzerker). Anyone that truly likes this game already owns it.

Dude, are you fucking stupid? No story in side missions? This game has a quest in which you get to disband a fucked up crazy religious cult by burning a midget into the mouth of a giant mechanical dragon, all whilst he screas how much he likes the flames and how he's gonna get embraced by his goddess in death. That is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in any FPS outside of Duke Nukem 3d or the Serious Sam franchise

You can play Borderlands 2 for free, for the next 5 days. That should be plenty of time to complete the game ;-)
