Have you ever kept a key/gift for a more meaningful giveaway, only to have it become ungiftable?

Exactly the same situation as me.
Also, there is a giveaway site called "Playblink" that only accepts premium-priced Steam gifts; both keys and cheap gifts (like the ones in my inventory) cannot be accepted for creating giveaways. Draconian rules, truly!
But Playblink remains an excellent giveaway site overall. They even have a real time forum with key drops -- the fastest way to win games.

Yup, I had to learn the hard way and "lost" several MMO early access steam gifts when they released the game and made it free.

I don't have too much money but i was trying to fix my karma so i bough 5 copies of an indiegala bundle with the happy hour... I reserved them to give those keys in my cake day. 10 days later Metroid gave for free some of those games so i lost 20 keys in just one day :/

You can always unload these keys in the wishlisted games thread or the ninja thread :-)

Yup! Well, not specific keys, but for a while I was saving up keys to do a big train and then when I went to do the train, 6 of the keys I'd saved up had been given away free in the meantime. Not a big deal as they were just little filler games in bundles anyway and I still found people who wanted them :)

My solution for useless keys is to give them to buddies if they are interested in giving the game a shot, only had a few that have become so though.
SS2 can never become useless, it is quite possibly one of the best games ever if not the best game ever. I once completed it twice in a week, I'd just finished playing through it and my daughter had caught a glimpse of some of the gameplay, pulled up a chair next to me and "forced" me to play it again so she could see all the story.
This then led to me having to play Bioshock 1,2 and 3 for her so she could watch them too.

Kind of. I wanted to make Talos kind of the finale to an unbundled train after a difficult puzzle, it became bundled before people solved the puzzle (but after I made the GA, for a different level than the bundle train that preceded it, so it didn't fit in anywhere anymore ^^)
An I once made a GA set to start 3 hours later for an event, about half an hour before it started it was given out for free somewhere else (it was just a left over bundle game and I could replace it, but still kind of bummed me out).
So now I regularly empty out my inventories here ^^

Nope, but some games became bundled before I made a giveaway... But that's still better than nothing.

I have several keys for good games that I'm "sitting" on, because I want to use them in a more meaningful way (e.g. as part of a puzzle or an event). I don't care so much about them being added to the bundle list (some already are), but it would be a shame if they there's some glitch (e.g. ETS2 given for a few hours for free) which would make them ungiftable. Has this ever happened to you?
