In '87, Huey released Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square," a song so catchy most people probably don't listen to the lyrics-- but they should! Because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself!

Sorry, I haven't ever heard any of these guys, but thought I should give you a bump for le jeu de mots.

Well, I do need a new drug. But that was a priceless bump from me.

I am a big fan of Huey Lewis and the News. I was fortunate enough to actually be able to see them live several years ago. The man has not aged and his voice is just as good as ever. I agree with you that Sports is when they really came into their own. I enjoy their earlier albums, but they just don't feel as polished. Great band.

The greatest film of all time. It's one of those movies that I can watch over and over and over and over. Also, an earlier appearance by Jared Leto.

I like HL&tN... but have no interest in the movie you are referencing. :X

I was a kid when "Sports" came out and it was a pretty big deal at the time. I liked their previous song "Do you believe in love" and got their cassette when joining one of the cassette music clubs that existed back in the day. I didn't know anything about them beyond I liked that one song, and was very happy with "Sports". "I wanna new drug" is probably the groove that I liked best from that album, but I can tell you me and my brother played the heck out of that album when we were kids, often taking it outside in our boom box to listen to while shooting basketball.

Whenever i think about Huey Lewis and the News, i end up getting "If This Is It" stuck in my head for about a week, so thanks for that.

Hip to Be Square is definitely one of my faves...
I also really like Jacob's Ladder. Probably my all time fave HL+TN song.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
