While it is a decent game I think the price is a bit exorbitant. Surely it's worth that money but I'm pretty sure they could sell it for half the price and still make good profit.

All of the final fantasy games have been upto half of their price, total worth paying for

I'm actually surprised that they're not more expensive. With a name like Final Fantasy attached, they would probably be able to sell the games for 25-30€ and still get a good amount of sales.

It's a mobile port. Game will have the UI used in mobile version and there's no widescreen support. Honestly I think one is probably better playing ps1 version in emulator with plugins that enhance graphics than playing this port.

"What do you expect them to do, redraw all of their backgrounds?"
A common trick that's been used ever since 3:4 ratio of arcade screens needed to be converted to 4:3 ratio of home tv screens is to at least fill up the black space with a static background. More advanced approach adds additional stuff in there, like the soundtrack title of whatever's running.

Or, you know, if you're ttalking about mobile ports, you can use the black space to draw a controller overlay with faked buttons, instead of slapping them over the actual game area.

That's typically easy enough to do even if you're just wrapping things up in an emulator package.

Edit: just noticed that's sort of what they did, by adding in the grey stone texture. Not the most spectacular, but could be worse.

  1. its quite overpriced
  2. its a unity port (and there are duplicate DATA files because x86 and x64 can't use the same files LOL (+850MB))
  3. "yo i heard u guyz hate black borders, so we made fancy grey borders"
  4. "HD" models are just the same models, they just applied some kinda filtering to the textures (from the blurriness, i guess xBRZ)
  5. Backgrounds got filtered too, very low res and more blurry
  6. FMV is 15FPS, ingame 30, combat is 30 too but animations are so bad they look like ~10fps
  7. even though you can choose 4K resolution, game will still run in 1080p

TL;DR: it doesn't worth its current price, only get it if it gets down to ~5€.

Imho this was the most boring Final Fantasy I had to play on the psone, never did a second playthrough.
They basically wanted to redo a more classic medieval fantastic setting after FF7 & FF8 but the story and atmosphere wasn't there, at least for me.

Why do they keep doing shitty ports to these games while asking so damn much?

Seriously, for this quality, they shouldn't be asking more than $4 tops before discounts. I mean I could get out my old PSX discs and an emulator and be able to turn up the settings and be just fine.

They are charging remastered prices for ported games. Been like this for all the Final Fantasy games it seems. And as much as I would like to see Star Ocean ported, they would probably do the same crap to them.

Guys it's a freaking Final Fantasy game. Port or not, 15 year old game or not, you're crazy if you were expecting it to be under $10. Some of you are so freakin spoiled with $1 bundles, free games, and massive sales every couple of months you are now expecting billion dollar companies to give away their games for practically nothing.
