VB6 or VB.NET?

Anyway.. you need to learn XNA for create games.

The best choise is XNA + C# (but you can use it also with VB.NET)

I suggest you to use Visual Studio 2010 because XNA (for now) is only compatible with this.

What pdf's would you recommend to learn visual basic? as I've been told, start with VB as its the easiest.

If games is what you want to do maybe you can start with some scripting. But for proper understanding of programming I recomend C, it isn't that used now but it's great for learning the basics.
