It depends if the keys been activated or not. If they have activated it, it cannot be rerolled but if they haven't then why not?

I guess the general policy is that they don't reroll key giveaways. I think I saw someon on support saying it. But I'm not 100% sure now.

Hadn't heard this. Does this mean that after 7days of no response and no activation you could give the key to a mate with no consequence? Or must you still leave the key unactivated?

I guess so. Better have someone from the staff assure it. But I'd swear I read it from Lina.

Just use it yourself or drop it somewhere after the 7 days.

fair enough. You can always give it to a mate via steam though.

Anyway open a support ticket stating your case. As I may be wrong.

This is the contents of a text file I have named 'Key sent re-roll response.txt'

"We don't normally re-roll giveaways where the key has been sent, since there's no way of knowing whether it has been redeemed. If you have another key to send, we can grant your request. Otherwise, your options are to wait and see if the user marks it as received, or we can delete the giveaway for you. Please let us know how you'd like to proceed."

There are exceptions if we know the key was not redeemed, usually involving contact with the winner. It's usually an unknown, though. I also usually advise them to give the key to a friend in case it hasn't been activated. I would actually recommend that for public giveaways people establish contact with the winner before giving them the key just to be certain. If they don't respond within a week, it's grounds for a re-roll. Just include proof of attempted contact with the request to save time, because we're going to ask for it if you don't.

How can you even check if the key is used without trying to add it in steam? The re-roll you do there has a 50/50 chance that its gonna be valid.

You cannot. If you already own the game you can check by trying to add it but even then I've heard of this using upthe keys.

just wait for seven days and if they don't mark it by then, make a support ticket with proof of sending key.

Well a period of inactivity like that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Not everyone sits and plays video games every single day. They could be on holiday or ill for all you know.

You probably shouldn't give their Steam name either. It's a pretty simple name that's probably used by a lot of people, but you're not supposed to call other users out.

I dunno about the name change, but I regularly go 12 days without using steam. I don't have it set to autostart so I only log in when I feel like playing a game.

Same here. With exams and such, I haven't had time to play much, and even when I do, I usually play offline or at LAN's anyway.

This is why if the giveaway is for a key, it's always best to give it via chat.
