It's one of my most regrettable purchase on Steam. I bought it way before, thinking it would be like Left 4 Dead but, oh boy, how wrong was I.

Lol, but it has single player mode :) The very first thing that Steam lists are:
Single-player
Multi-player
Co-op
Local Co-op
in this order. Please, at least check out the store page before you say silly things.
It's actually nowhere similar to H1Z1, this is a mission-based game, like extracting survivors, getting resources, etc. It's no a MMO-like game - maybe OP's guess at the game confused you.

First of all, having co-op doesn't mean the lack of single player mode. Imagine this! Even Don't Starve Together have a single player mode, while it's not being mentioned amongst the MOST POPULAR TAGS YOU LINKED. Such surprise that people upvote the co-op aspect in a game genre that promotes co-op, eh? Source? I own and played both Don't Starve Together and Contagion full alone. But sure, let's contradict me with random tags.
Or you can actually take the 10 seconds it require to google "contagion single player gameplay", that would be also outstanding!.
If you'll take and treat "Popular user-defined tags for this product" as the full description of a game, you'll have a terrible time. As other tags in case of coontagion includes: "Multiplayer, Online Co-Op, Indie, First-Person, Shooter, Adventure, PvP, Survival Horror, Open World, Atmospheric, Gore, Singleplayer, Competitive, Local Co-Op"
So the game is an FPS because it's amongst the top, but not a shooter, yet not first person, because those are hidden. Survival and horror, but not survival horror. Neat.

I somehow have a feeling that your habit is looking down on people. Don't Starve Together is being built from scratch just for the sake of a multiplayer mode for Don't Starve. The "single player" style you mentioned in DST is just playing alone in your own server, nothing more. Why do you play DST alone, while you already own DS, a full-fledged game built specifically for single player?
Take a look at Contagion. You said it has single player contents. Maybe. But the game itself is made to be played in multiplayer mode.
Using the keyword YOU provide, "contagion single player gameplay", the first few results are:

Contagion is a multiplayer focused game with 3 different game ... by a single player, although they are geared towards multi-player

Seriously though, it’s a really odd game, in that if you play single player, there’s no opportunity to play zombie and therefore sorta takes away from the experience, making me think, why is there zombie mode?
Even the dev themselves admitted that there is no built-in single player mode for the game. You can play the game alone, with or without adding bots, but either ways you will never fully enjoy it. Also remember Counter-Strike, where you added bots to play "single"? Can that actually be called "single"?
The conclusion is Contagion is yet another CS or DST, where you can play alone in your own multiplayer server. NOT single player.
About the PewDiePie's game, it is obvious that the tags are just some jokes of the fans. Any person with barely enough knowledge will recognize that.
Oh, and you do know that FPS stands for First-person SHOOTER, right? How can a FPS game NOT a shooter, or first-person, I wonder?
I haven't got to the point where I compare your DST play time with my DS play time. And your Contagion play time is less than 3hrs. Do you really think you have enough experience with the two games to show off like that?

Because one can buy the multi, and have the experience of both the single and multi? You was complaining that there's no single player mode in a game that clearly has one. You weren't complaining it being bad, you were straight out telling it doesn't have single player mode.
Btw seriously, you need more than 3 hours to find out if a game can be played alone or not? :D

If you are confused about the definition of Single-player Games/Modes, read this piece of Wikipedia.
Contagion clearly doesn't have single player mode. What you call single player is, as I stated, playing alone in a multiplayer game. If that is "single player", then I dare say Dota 2 also has single player, as you can create a map and then crown yourself The Lonely Hero who single-handedly protect your Ancient against hordes of enemy. At least Dota 2 has some background storyline. Contagion has none.

Yeah its probably because those people who don't own it really want it but then when they get it they really don't like it. I was the exact same, I wanted it so bad I actually did a trade for it but once I started playing, everything went wrong.

I played it in the freetoplay weekend and loved it, after buying a few months later it felt a little awkward but it still is a great game to play with friends. It is not the best zombie shooter but it is not bad.

Well, large scale survival games gained a lot of attraction (DayZ, H1Z1 etc.) and extremely similar F2P game came out when Contagion was in EA (No more room in hell store.steampowered.com/app/224260/).
