Sounds like they gave you a used key. Report it to Support and they'll take care of the offender.

If it was gifted via email you'll get that error.

So yeah, sounds like they scammed you.

have you tried restarting your steam and checking yor library?

Just wait. Really. This really may be just a bug, I once took 2 days to get a gift redeemed. After I spammed the "Add to Library" button like crazy, it just was randomly accepted.

I've had this happen to me in the past. It may just be a bug.

I've had that thing happen couple times myself. For me it worked when I just kept trying to add it several times then it eventually worked. When it happened first time I was scared too but since then I learned it's just some sort of bug with gifts sometimes.

i just came back from school and opened steam and i had an notification that i've received a new gift. so i guess it was a steam bug. it got redeemed on my account but then it took like 14hrs to reach my account.
