Master lumberjack, worth it or not?
Not at all, but it's a bit complicated. I'm from the Church of the Nazarene, which is a fairly conservative Wesleyan/Holiness denomination. However, I am going to a rather liberal Presbyterian Reformed (but ecumenical) seminary, so in order to be ordained for ministry I'll need to take some courses from the good old denominational seminary system. Basically, I focused on the academy instead of the pulpit, so it will take a bit longer to be considered "ready" in my denomination. That said, my school is pretty prestigious and cheap, so taking a year of denominational courses (at prospective preacher pricing) after completing my degree here is actually cheaper and more feasible than spending all three years for an M-Div at Nazarene Theological Seminary.

I had heard of the Nazarenes but don't know that much about them. Are you considered Methodist? I'm enjoying reading up on the link you posted.
I myself am Lutheran (WELS). As for the mission degree, working with my linguistics degree It would most likely be in lay-missions with a focus on languages. English as a second language (ESL) programs, assisting missionary pastors, and translating/interpreting.

Not technically. We come out of many of the same movements, and from outside of the context of Wesleyan Holiness the term might be used to describe us. Pew puts us in the category of holiness movements (study here). While we are in some ways similar to Methodists, I think we have a somewhat distinct governmental structure and we were founded as an entirely new denomination- that is, not a schismatic group from an existing denomination, rather, a union of three small Holiness movement denominations. While we do have some of the individual holiness and mission of the Church ideas that are very similar to the Methodists, I'd say we're closer in form to the Salvation Army, though our work with the poor is not as effective as their excellent ministry.
There are no Nazarene churches in the immediate area, and I lack a car, so I've actually been going to a Missouri Synod Lutheran church in town. It's actually interesting because although it's a Missouri Synod church, they also have ELCA members, so there's a tension between more conservative and more liberal that I don't quite understand.

Yeah, that's why I said good luck on the hunt. I would imagine that if he spent this much time and money to achieve a master's degree that moving is not an issue.
At least the trade war looks like it's over now for you guys...
