Just out of curiousity: In which field did you make your master? Anorganics, Organics, Theoretical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytics, Biochemistry? If you say Organics or Biochemistry I need to shake my head in disbelief and need to start to disrespect you O.o

im satisfied with results as my thesis was new sorbent for sulfur removal from gas, and it actually removed sulfur! :D

What's wrong with Biochemistry? =)

Well, how shall I explain this. If you study something long enough you'll start to dislike certain fields ^^ Not everything in your study will go well and you need someone to blame for it. Also often (for some strange reason) you will find people with the same mindset in one research field and less in another one. It is basically like school ^^

Hmm, I just wrote a long reply, but now it's gone =/. You have no idea how well I recognize that from school ^^. I just thought that people from biochemistry do really badass stuff =D

may i ask what did you work on? i'm working on pesticides, so knows a bit (lot) about chemistry.
favorite subject in undergrad was organic chemistry

i made sorbent for sulphur removal from hot gasses used mainly for igcc or pre syngas natural gas cleanup.

nice. artificial sorbent?
do you have a use for the removed sulphur? i mean, if it's clean maybe you can sell it.
i always think like an environmental engineer, and what you did is awesome

i worked on sorbent which is regenerable and sulfur can be used as elemntal sulfur, as sulfur dioxie for further synthesis, or as hidrogen sulfide.....

What's your recommendation on books/videos for people to just get started in chemistry?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

for videos you have good lectures online from MIT and for books start from basic chemistry from highschool books...

You could have just said you didn't know any and that would have been fine too. It's better than assuming that everyone has a complete mastery of everything leading up to chemistry and that any DVD series or book will be suitable. It's like you think I haven't been through hundreds of them already.

Interesting. Here in Brazil (I believe) there are plenty of jobs for people with doctorate degrees, but then again what do I know :P

Like here (in Poland) you either are extremely lucky and are able to stay at uni to work or are mostly unemployed after getting PhD. Companies don't hire much people with PhD degree so if someone with PhD really want to do something in their field of study they emigrate most of the time.
