It only gives you a limited amount of keys though.

Actually, I wasn't. He offered me 3 keys. I was hardly going to decline a highball offer.

I reported him, but I have no proof that he ever scammed me. :(

Chat window/logs? Anything about the trade agreement, and the other part backing out?
If not, then unfortunately you don't have anything.

I gave an idiot scammer my 18 cards for his offer of PAYDAY 2 and got scammed. Fool me! Now steam support has banned him. Yay!

I don't understand why so many people create this kind of threads and "boast" about being scammed. Like it was something to be proud of.
Whatever I guess.

Give him a false key first. Usually scammers unfriend you excatly after giving the key. It is not foolproof, but still shows you a few scammers. I traded bundle games for first to get reps. Now I trade only with people that has less reps than I do. That is foolproof! :D
If you want to "farm" reputation, buy alot of trading cards and trade them for bundle games. Like theatre of war, I traded one copy for 1 trading card. Mostly for the rep.
Well that's my guide to not get scammed! :D

No. Posting a fake key in a trade will get you marked as a scammer and remove all of your credibility if you're trading with a respectable trader. If you want to avoid getting scammed, trade smart and safe. Don't do key trades if you're not experienced enough to, and don't trade with people you don't trust (even/especially regarding tradeables). If you're unsure about them, don't even bother.
As for reputation farming, quality > quantity. You only really have 1 rep, and I'd rather trade with a nice person who has 0 reps on their page than with someone who has 100 rep and isn't really cool. You can tell who's cool and who's a con man fairly easily after a while, but until then you need to stick to the trade window and avoid potentially self-harming 'tricks' and deceptive methodologies.

My first time ever being scammed! How exciting! Someone offered me 3 TF2 keys for Gun Monkeys (should have known it was a scam by then :/) then left me hanging in the trade after I gave him the key.
