Not one of the best, i didnt really enjoy the game that much, i saw too many quirks and i found the storyline was more a Max Payne meets horror, which in the end it didnt turn out so good for me.
In terms of the soundtrack....its Poets of the Fall.....what more can i ask for?

Heard them the very first time i played Max Payne 2, thought to myself "oh, cool song", after that i got into the band, and played again the MP games.
(something to note, if you ever played Max Payne 1, check Alan Wake, the live interview, where there's this guy Sam Lake, the writer of Alan Wake and MP series, who also is the face of Max Payne, after that scene, go look at the 1st Max Payne face and smile)

Hah! Yeah! A couple of the pages are read by the voice of Max Payne and are written in the Max Payne/film noir style. I laughed when I heard it, but I was also thinking..."hang on, has he been voicing the whole game and just slipped back into Max Payne by mistake?".

The story was...not great, but the pure cheesiness of it won me over in the end. Max Payne and the sequel were the same, the over-the-top film noire overtones made me cringe but I still loved it.

I loved Twin Peaks, from which Alan Wake borrows quite heavily, and I bloody loved Alan Wake; I agree, the music was awesome. The only "game" that has come close recently, in terms of incidental music, has been Dear Esther.
Did you play the extra parts (that were DLC on consoles)? I started playing but had major graphics glitches in the first 10 minutes. The difficulty also seemed to have been ramped up to Nintendo-hard between the ending of the main game and the start of the extra parts. Having played all the way through Alan Wake on Normal in 3 sittings I gave up and haven't played it since...

Poets of the Fall as The Old Gods of Asgard made some of the best songs in their career.
The game is pure awesomeness in everything except characters facial animation.

Well, I came here to post this (I'm not usually posting on forums) just after beating whole game.
I need to say that I'm totally shocked about quality of the whole soundtrack. I'm not talking about ambient music that carries you through whole game but about individual songs. They are FUCKING AWESOME.
If you finished game - do you remember being on the two rockman's farm where you have found "broken" audio vinyls player which you needed to fix? I'm talking about this song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeSUvoY2oUk
I'll be honest - I almost had tear in my eye when I saw cut-scene just after fixing that audio player.
My conclusion - Alan Wake is one of the best games I've played in my life and definitely the best in term of soundtrack.
That's all I wanted to share :P
