Idk, there are better laptops for less. Its prob b/c its sony that made it. i got an acer last year, that has i5 intel 2.4ghz with turbo up to 3.0 ghz, 4 gigs ram, and a decent graphics card for around 500.

Wait wait wait. In original post, you said you got it at BestBuy. I assumed you bought it. So you didn't buy it, it was given to you as a present?

It's a sony, so it was a bad deal. $200 of that pricetag was for it being silver and having the name sony on it.
Grats.

Back then....it was OK I guess(I mean you could have gotten much better but Sony overcharges), now no.
I Just got a laptop with a i3-2330(Asus) for 300 recently, not sure why thats priced so high....probably because it has run its course and those are the leftovers, somethings things like that get inflated in price.

I'm gonna make this very clear: You got an awful deal. There is nothing good about this laptop.
Anything with intel HD Graphics you can scrap. You can get laptops with a real GPU for the same price with the same other specs from brands such as Acer, Asus, etc

As I state below, not scrap. I play Skyrim on ultra. Don't judge a book by it's cover, read it first (aka try it out first)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, and on what resolution are you playing it on ultra? 640x480? 5 fps?
Judging your "book by its insides", I can tell you that your processor and (lacking mention of) memory is pretty much telling me how much BS there is in this statement. - and that's not to mention the use of an Intel HD Graphics card which benchmarks say won't run Skyrim (in ultra) like you apparently are.

Intel Graphics is better than it was in the past - the latest is pretty equal to a cheap gamer's nvidia graphic cards. Saying that, however, an external graphics card with it's own memory, rather than shared with the system is still highly recommended if gaming. Laptops are expensive for gaming and just not really designed for it, good for other things, but the only actual good gaming laptop i've seen is from Alienwarez and they weight a ton (defends the hope purpose of a laptop really).

Intel HD Graphics is what you get at no cost at all. Now, I have stayed clear of them, but I know people who haven't, and I hear the same things - while they have gotten better, they're still highly low end and not something to use for gaming.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html (search Intel HD) Since the OP doesn't say the GPU model number, I'm going to assume it's not the top one, but rather one in the 3. mid class or below range. You can get a REAL GPU in a computer with the same specs for the same price. Settling for an intel HD is never a smart choice.

With 3rd Gen Intel PCs, the processor CPU has direct access to the graphics card as well as memory. This really boosts the graphics processing. Still, I would agree never settling for integrated graphics if going for hardcore gaming purposes. Even with the lower processing power, you still got to deal with shared memory, some of the latest games actually don't even consider it a graphics card and refuse to run to avoid getting performance complaints or just because the high resolution textures won't fit.

Yeah, thanks for the correction, I meant dedicated - as in external from (not intergrated into) the motherboard / shared memory. Interestly, you can actually get external boxed graphic cards which sit outside the laptop as well, not that I've ever used one.

I have a very similar laptop that I got used for only $225 (originally $550, so 100 below yours, despite almost the same hardware). Mines a Toshiba with 2.13GHz for processing, but 500 gb hd. Those are the only differences. I too, have intel HD graphics and haters gonna hate, but I play Skyrim on ultra with this bad boy. It's only a steal if the $1,100 are actually selling, cause anything can be listed, but it doesn't always get bought. If they are getting bought though, then yes, pretty good deal for you, though I was extremely lucky and got a magical deal.

I highly doubt that you're playing Skyrim on ultra. Until recently, my gaming PC was running a Radeon 5770, with an i7 2600k, and that didn't run Skyrim on ultra. Not in acceptable frame rates anyway. Only with my new 7870 does it run at that detail level.

15fps. I know, that's not a top of the line framerate, but it plays low on 15fps too, so I figured, why not play in ultra. No joke though, it's really strange. If you check out my steam profile though, you can see some high quality skyrim screenshots from me.

Yeah but you can get a laptop for $150-300 easy in that case. If you are going to be overpaying you might as well get some proper hardware - and if its for school use, what will the power consumption matter when it isn't on your bill anyway. (Until you get home and start gaming anyway, otherwise most newer PCs come with decent power settings depending on use)

Ahh gotcha, I assumed it meant with power supply available (as in a classroom). But thinking back to college I do recall that it wasn't always an option, well fair point. But still, can find much cheaper laptops than this that will hold out as long.

If the power supply's under 400watts, i'd say it was a steal.

at least you got it before windows 8, so that's a plus

I'll admit that I've only ever messed with 8 on in store computers, but that was more than enough to be completely turned off by it.

Yes its an ok deal since Sony is an expensive brand. A steal is my dad's Gateway from Best Buy when they cleared out all the windows 7 computers which was at the end of February. 270 USD for an Intel Pentium G630 with 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 750 GB Harddrive, and a 21 inch LED montor which retails at 95 USD

I have a MacBook Pro, late 2011 model. I7 2670QM up to 3.1GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon 6700 mobile graphics.
I've bootcamped it, it runs Windows 8 alongside OS X. With the current AMD beta drivers, I can play Borderlands 2 (haven't tried anything newer than that, for the big stuff I have my gaming PC).
I essentially paid AU$ 900 for this laptop, after selling my previous Dell laptop for more than I paid for it.
Did you get a good deal? Maybe. A steal? Not so much.

My current laptop which I got 2 years ago
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Manufacturer: Sony Corp.
Processor: Intel Core i3 CPU M380 @ 2.53GHz
Memory: 4GB
Graphics: HD Intel Graphics
DirectX 11
I got it for $699 at Bestbuy 2 years ago. Currently on amazon for $1,100. Not sure why it is priced so high on amazon.
It isn't really for gaming, it's mostly for school but it can run some 3D games well enough. If I want to play games with higher demand I just use my computer.
I personally think it was a steal. What is your guys opinion?
