I think that only with a massive sales of ME1 and 2 can EA actually begin to re-think the "no more steam games" policy...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Really no one is missing anything with ME3 not being on Steam. It is easily the worst game of the series (story wise) and pretty much burns the premise of the previous games to the ground.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree with you on this point, but I think the only way to show EA that they should release their games on steam is with a huge amount of sales (on steam) of EA games. This way maybe they could re-think their no-steam-release policy.

Crysis was never about the games IMO, they were just tech demos for the engine.

the first one was a benchmark (though not just that, a good game too, see my last reply) but the 2nd was NOT a benchmarking tool, it was dumbed-down for xbox 360 and not optimized for pc. so the 2nd one benchmarks fuckall.

not to me! i know the rep, but i LOVED the first half of crysis (tbh never finished it, level wouldnt complete at end where you get to the dock, still have to finish it) i thought it was immersive as hell and very fun. I remember thinking THIS is how games should be done! and yea this was just last year.

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly. Far Cry was a tech demo, and the game ended up to be freaking fun as hell. Then, Crysis came along with another awesome as shit tech demo, and again a fun game.

Crytek is notorious for selling out their IPs to shitty publishers, and then it ruins the series. Ex: Ubisoft with Far Cry 2, and EA with Crysis 2/3.

In this moment Steam consumes 130MB of my RAM which is way more than a little webbrowser with 3 tabs and a simplistic UI should take. Well, Adobe Air isn't made to create slim programs i guess >_>
It's the smallest problem of all, though

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Does it really matter if most ppl have 2gbs or more of ram,I mean i got 4 and my whole system only takes about a 1.3gbs of ram with all my apps open and with games about 2.5gbs of ram.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This, the minimum gigs of RAM in new computers is 4. Memory isn't an issue especially when you consider the page file.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You're right of course that 130MB aren't that much in systems with several GBs but my point is that programs should take as less RAM as they can. Just because we have massive amounts of memory doesn't mean programs should take more than they really need especially when they're only service programs that run in the background

Steam also has a game list, the ability to launch games, the friends list, a group list, chat, offline mode and the ever famous multiple UIs.

Comment has been collapsed.

It will more then likely be on origin but this shouldn't stop you from getting the game if you truly want to own it.

There always seems to be a lot of hate directed at Origin but in fact its no different from steam. I believe people just like to defend their DRM of choice & have invested much time and money into their game libraries in steam so they naturally feel threatened by anything non-steam.

If not origin, it would be something else to hate on.

The truth is we should embrace any and all competition, cause we as the consumers will reap the rewards through deals, sales and events conducted by these businesses to compete against each other and sway us.

Thats true I frankly dont care about the drm, but Im not going to say their are some that I prefer than others. As for me I have accounts in many platforms and game-sites i dont mind managing to many accounts, but there are certain games i cant get on steam so I get them else where.

Shitty story, shitty optimalization, the worst AI I've seen in the last few years. Even Duke Nukem Forever had better AI.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Bad AI? Yes. Bad story? Yes, thought if you also read the book that follows the story of the game, it becomes freaking great. Bad optimization? Sorry, but no. It was miles ahead of Crysis and Warhead in optimizations. It ran ten times smoother.

You should have chosen bad gameplay. Because it's a step down from Crysis and Warhead. It's very streamlined, as they wanted to offer the same experience on both PC and consoles. They could have given us the old-style of gameplay and the new one consoles only, but that would've meant more time and money spent on development, and they didn't want that. But they saw it was a bad decision after the release, when they gave PC gamers an incomplete game (DX11 and other features missing) and they had to patch it up, but lost sales in return.

I'm hoping for a more polished release with Crysis 3, hoping they listened to fans at least a bit.

Permalink

The story withing the game should be good on its own, books/comics are optional to add more to the story/background of the story (Mass Effect, Bioshock). And yes, the worst AI I've seen in the past few years. Go ahead and play it again, it was horrible.

I can answer that, it was missing enemy types. It was way too basic during firefights, I always knew what to expect, nothing was really surprising. The game was also way too short.

I believe every EA game is tied to Origin and Origin handles all the networking - 100% just like Steam. So putting it on Steam would mean you have to launch Origin. That will never happen.

ummm
it is very unlikely i know,
i believe crysis 2 was only rereleased on steam as an experiment from ea,
but saying it will never happen is a bit stretched

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, Crysis 2 was re-released on Steam, because ultimately, Crytek has more of a partnership relation with EA, they're not really owned by them. So they decided they'll make a GOTY-type release and put it on Steam, despite EA's wishes. And they made the new version to avoid any further complications. If they so wish, they could make a Steam version from the very start.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually it's not despite EA's wishes. EA has a contract as publisher with Crytek. Crytek can't just go you know what, we should put this on Steam, fuck what EA wants. EA must agree with Crytek over such a release. Also your comment about from the start is yet again incorrect. Again majority of the power rest's with the Publisher, EA. I think you need to check who own's the IP along side known fact's of their agreement (Google it). EA has more control then you think.

No idea honestly, but I'd say yes. Many people seem to ignore the game because of it only being on Origin, so just like with Crysis 2, eventually they will simply HAVE to allow the game be on Steam to gain population.

It's already confirmed by EA that Crysis 3, and all future EA title's will be using the Origin platform with some exceptions inregards to previous deal's with other providers. The only way to get Crysis 3 will be Digitally using Origin or Retail which will still require an Origin activation similar to ME3 and BF3. EA din't just spend a couple million to redo Origin's launch from the EADLM, and throw up more hardware for Origin for nothing after all ;)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Wow, more and more good games being ruined by horrible DRM / platform. I already was dissapointed to see GTA IV and Dead Rising 2 were GFWL; that instantly scrapped them off my list of games. Now Crysis 3'll be Origin exclusive? Great, scratch that then, too. You know, because Origin is, well, a flaming pile of shit.

Steam is not a DRM. Steam is a form of DRM through a gaming / communication platform. There's no such thing as "a DRM". Also, I did say horrible DRM / platform. Steam isn't horrible. Yeah it has stuff I can bitch about for ages but the core functionality of it works. Steamplay works well, too. Origin, on the other hand..

Well I'm hoping it will be. Haven't heard any official announcements yet. But knowing EA, they might still have faith in Origin. The only reason I say it like that is because they managed to put Crysis 2 on steam, so maybe, just maybe they might save Crysis 3 sales and get it on Steam.
