Good Evening!
I'm playing with a very old machine, and I need to upgrade my GPU.

MY PC NOW:

MB: Asus MN3-H/HDMI
GPU: ATI HD 4800 SERIES
CPU: Phenom II x4 940 (I can try to OC it if necessary)
RAM: 8Gb
PSU: 700W

I've found a lot of different solution clicking on google, in hardware forums, and I really can't decide!
At the moment I can't afford to build a new 4K gaming PC uber potato power.
I can spend a max of 200€ for a single GPU that can provide me better performance, acces to DX11 and....compatibility with my old components.

I've found a R9 290X for 190€ but I'm afraid to make a bottleneck.

From other forums the suggestions are:

R9 380/380X
GTX 960/970

OR

RX 460 in 2 weeks it should be out.

I really need your help.

Excuse my bad english. :(

R9 290 would be good. The upcoming RX 470 may be in that performance range, and I'd say preferable for being more modern and using less power, but you'll have to wait a week to find out more about its price and performance.

To put it simple - your CPU will bottleneck the whole pc so your GPU change won't help much, sry!

I'm not searching to give a new life to my old Pc, just to make it running with DX11 and a little better performance for 1 - 2 years

If an X4 965 didn't bottleneck a 380X, then an X4 940 most likely won't either.

R9 380/380X, if it dropped price compared to the RX 480, yes. That CPU may indeed bottleneck a 480 now.
The 290X could be overkill, both in performance and in budget. The 380 would be a significant step up compared to the current one anyway, and that CPU won't last more than 3-4 years maybe, the same as the 380.

The GTX 960 is not a good idea as the 380 beats it comfortably. A 750 Ti may be considered to make it really cheap, but that card will most likely reach the end of its rope in 1-2 years.

Thanks for your suggestion.
GTX 960 is not as cheap as you said, it cost not less then 200€
I'll wait RX 470 and decide

A 470 could be a viable option, yeah.
You may also think about a 480 only if you can build a new rig in 2-3 years, so you can migrate the card there.
The options are numerous, but you need to know what you want in several years down the road and adjust accordingly.

When I will build a new pc, I'will need something TOP, so I'm not going to recycle it.
My old Baby will pass to my wife, so she can stop bothering xD

Then 470 or 380 for sure. You should not invest more. Heck, if you can find a used 7790 in decent condition, get that. :)

For nVidia a 2gb GTX 750Ti or 970 if you can stretch it. but if you're going for 280X/290X you better have a good quality 80Plus PSU... The power draw of old AMD cards are not as little as the nVidia 700/900 series..

I personally have a GTX 970 and I'm very happy with it. Sure, it's not the best card out there, but it is close to the top. I can play most games on ultra settings, close to 60fps. (I have an i5-4440 CPU)

I'm not entirely sure if that CPU will bottleneck it or not. I don't know much about CPU's.

Save the money, build up some more money to spend in a completly new machine. Then build your own machine from start (then upgrade it every 5 years or so).

I know it sucks to wait out longer to get something that you want done, but it's for the best, running recent technology on old technology is like asking for problems that will have you spend hours upon hours googling and foruming for solutions to fix said problems. Is it worth it? Probably not.

This is what i did, i saved up money. Checked one PC store in the city (prior to this i explored their website, components and pre-builds). I grabbed one of their gaming builds which was considered "High quality gaming", essentially the second best build they had in the store. I changed some of the components with cheaper ones so i could increase on others (RAM, GPU, CPU). Like picked a different MOBO, PSU, case, etc and made sure that everything would run fine. This was like 3+ years ago, pc is still going strong today and i don't plan on upgrading untill i'm forced to play games on medium/low quality (and by upgrade i most likely mean a completly new build again 'cause i'm paranoid). The only thing i regretted was buying asus gtx 670 a month before they announced the 700 series, asus gtx 670 alone was like 40% of the build cost in the end, 700 series would deliver similiar perfomance at a lower price. I can still run pretty much everything just fine. Only had 1 game so far that made my computer freak out probably due to bad optimization since it's a port, that game is ryse: son of rome. Had to play this game on medium quality to achieve 60 fps. Games like BF4/Crysis 3 run better than this game at high/ultra settings and look way better.

I would recommend R9380 or wait for RX 470.
edit: If R9380 costs too much, the GTX 960 should be slightly cheaper.

If you're going to buy a last-gen card, you really should consider buying a used one. Enthusiasts often sell off their old cards to finance their new ones, and you can usually get a good deal from someone who needs to sell fast. A couple of companies (EVGA and XFX come to mind) even offer transferable warranties.

With the 1000 nVidia series and 400 AMD series out, usednVidia 970/960 and AMD380/X and even the 200 series should be selling at reasonable prices. Just browsing ebay really quickly, I see someone selling two 970's for $323, and several for under $200, along with several 960s for well under $150. Not sure how that works out in your currency (didn't check your location), but used cards is something else to consider.
