I think I've been scammed

Someone added me on steam and sent me a steam cash code for 10$ and said 10$ was added to your account.All of that in a message on steam.What is this thing?I didn't use the code or anything but I don't think he's just giving codes to random people or something.Must be a scammer...Anyone knows what's going on?

It's common. As long as you don't give him any of your details(username,password,email),don't click on any links he sends,and never give him anything from your inventory,you're safe.

Only a code? maybe is safe... never click on links of strange people.

Can be a stoled code? and if you activate it you get banned? or you are just luck? (crazy, i'm just saying what i imagine)

Not true. Once I got added by a guy. I was trying to trade something for Darkout. This guy added me, and wanted NOTHING for it! I gave him a few christmas cards though. Yes, the game is still in my Library.

Use the code, and if it's from a stolen card, have to deal with Steam support trying to get your account unbanned. No thanks.

Use that code on an alternative acc and take benefit of it somehow with you normal :D

I wouldn't. If you try to buy something with the code and it's from a stolen credit card and then trade items to your real account, your real account will still be banned for being tied in with stolen credit cards/suspicious activity. Not worth it.

Not at all .. you think Steam bans eveyrone who might have come in contact with a gift that is linked to a stolen credit card. Game may be removed but they're not gonna ban anyone else than the original purchaser and that's if they even do it for him.

I've read stories of people getting trade bans for being connected with items received from stolen credit cards. Sometimes Support will remove the ban, and sometimes not.

This isn't the story I was thinking of, but it's another case. Dota2 trader logged in one day to find his account banned. It eventually got straightened out, but he never knew why he was banned in the first place. The top comment below said he was probably a middle-man trading items that were purchased with a stolen credit card.

Random invites and random messages are usually people up to no good. Nothing sent through chat is ever official or for that matter, trustworthy.
