From the official announcement:

Alpha Polaris is now free
As Turmoil Games is closing, we have now made Alpha Polaris free. The game means a lot to us and we hope people continue to enjoy it far to the future. For all that have supported us: thank you!

I have not played it, yet, but it has a quite decent 74% of 184 Steam rating and graphics, that I personally like. Sad to see, that devs, who obviously care about their game, were not able to make it on Steam.I wish them best luck in the future, and I send them kudos for letting the game survive.

Get it from Steam or using ASF: !addlicense ASF 423572

It's not HOG, it's pure point and click adventure.

Oh man this is sad. I remember when this game was released the first time, outside of steam, had such a potential. But for some reason never got to steam until direct became a thing years later, and then... well, too hard for anything decent and not new to gain traction.

Good news for adventure gamers though.

I liked that game, purchased it a few years ago. Big thanks to studios that decide to leave their games as free instead of removing and no longer obtainable.

It does, you just don't get access to them from free licenses on steam. :)

Huh, does that mean that its trading cards are now unobtainable?

They should offer a "donation / buy the devs a coffee" DLC like some other free games do... though I guess with the company gone handling where the money goes could be more trouble than the tiny amount it would bring in is worth.

They would have to give the rights to the game to someone else to be able to do so. Otherwise, as they are closing the studio, there is going to be nobody to take any donations. And keeping alive a company receiving any kind of income, even the tiniest, in most countries just costs money.

Well what do you know, been considering getting this game. Good thing I hesitated so long, now it's free (but I agree, it's a shame that the dev studio couldn't survive). Thanks for the heads-up!
