Games that have been accessible through bundles, or games that were once available for free due to promotions or pricing errors are not included in this calculation. Your friend might want to install Enhanced Steam. It's a pretty cool browser add-on, and one of its many functions is showing the number of times a game has been bundled :)

Plants vs Zombies may be the only thing not on the bundle list here due to being in a PWYW bundle, free, or offered at a massive discount.
XCOM: EU was given free by Green Man Gaming previously and recently they had Bioshock Infinite for just $1. The rest are bundle games or games that were given away free.
edit: I was wrong, PvZ is on the list. I'm not sure where the $5 comes from then.
