Nope, like most good anime, it is based off a visual novel of the same name.

I enjoyed it at least. Typically I only enjoy the animes, live action SF normally blows.

Lara Croft movies, Ratchet & Clank, and Hitman (I enjoyed Hitman, but it wasn't that good).

The anime movies of Persona 3 are a good summary of the main history, but all the social links are omited unlike the persona 4 anime

The first Mortal Kombat movie and Legacy.
The first Lara Croft movie.
The first Resident Evil movie.
The 3D animated Tekken movie, because anything with a rocket-propelled panda in it is automatically awesome.
There was some Street Fighter OVA series that was surprisingly good.
Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. Yes, it is actually a good movie.
The DOA movie is so hilariously not giving a single fuck and wants to have fun that it is rather enjoyable.

Thank you for listing Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. That is an underrated movie in my opinion that gets much undeserved hate.
I saw the first Mortal Kombat movie in the theatre back in the day, and it was awesome hearing "MORTAL KOMBAT!" and the electronica/techno music.

Doom and the Dead Space ones were watchable. Otherwise I dig Wing Commander, but I guess you have to be into B-Trash and from the 90's to fully enjoy Freddie Prinze Jr. fighting against retarded looking space cats. Other good and watchable movies I'm aware of like Mortal Kombat have already been mentioned.

The first Mortal Kombat film wasn't bad. Over the top, yes. Cheesy too. But still a fun martial arts romp with plenty of special effects, and close enough to the source material available at the time.
The sequel though.... that makes the Super Mario Bros movie look like a masterpiece.
Final Fantasy: Spirits Within by itself is also OK, but loses points for not fitting in with the overall franchise at all due to a lack of fantasy elements.
Honorable mention:
Postal is not a good movie. At all. But it does have a lot of the offensive comedy Postal 2 is known for, and it does have JK Simmons playing a presidential candidate

Funny enough, the MK film had very little to do with the games, but it still became so popular among the fans that they retconned many stuff from the movie into the game canon. (The original MK1 was about a kung fu tournament held by an old master with magical power, who gradually took over one of the yearly Shaolin martial arts showdowns, and kept a pet half-dragon who was not from another dimension but based on Chinese folklore.)

I may be one of the rare ones who actually enjoys the Super Mario Bros movie.
Recommend you check out Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, it's fantastic (but it might be hard to know what's going on in the story without having played some of the games previously)

I've actually enjoyed Silent Hill (the first one, of course), but from what I understand, I'm among the few. And I hadn't even played any of the games by the time I watched the movie, so I wouldn't dare recomend it as an example of a successful adaptation - but still, it was good enough to spend time while skipping boring classes))
Have some hope (although a pretty small one) for Assassin's Creed, at least it's got an awesome cast and a decent director, and that's unusual for a game adaptation (but I haven't played the games as well, and I'm not even going to, it's just not my genre).

I didn't see any Advent Children posts, but I think that the movie itself is good; and the music is spectacular, especially the piano collection. :)

Lol well it also helps that Advent Children IS Final Fantasy...

I think Silent Hill was truly great! While I enjoyed Resident Evil for the boobies. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Prince of Persia also gets a lot of hate but I think it's probably the best adaptation to date (haven't seen Warcraft yet). Worth a watch are in my opinion the first Lara Croft movie (second one was waaaay too dull and boring), Hitman (both), Doom, Mass Effect and Dragon Age stuff if you really like the franchise, and maybe the first Bloodrayne (it's gory, and entertaining for the most part, but overhall is just a classic Uwe Boll pile of crap).
Also, despite how crappy it was, I enjoyed the Postal movie exactly for how crappy it was!

No such thing, very few are serviceable and the majority is made to take money away from suckers.
Let's just see, John Wick is basic a video game and the closest thing to Max Payne. No plot, extremely good.
Meanwhile some no name hacks are responsible for the actual Max Payne.
Like a Dragon(2007) - Is actually a continuation of yakuza before the third installment was out. Unfortunately you need to have played the previous game for character introduction.
Turnabout Courtroom(2012) - Again, a good adaptation that works better on game format, not to mention that you need to be familiarized with the games beforehand.
Silent Hill - Someone else's reimagined silent hill, it's not awful.
Dead Space: Downfall - Not really a standalone movie, but a backstory for the game you are playing. This is actually pretty neat, it gives plot to a game that works better without it.

+1 for Turnabout Courtroom
It's cheesy, but captures the games' quirkiness quite nicely. Generally, it follows the source material. But there were also several changes made in the film, making it somewhat interesting if you have played the games beforehand.

I quite enjoyed the movie adaptation (and the short-lived series) of Mortal Kombat.:)

The anime adaptation is good. Its art style is even better than the manga imo. But the movies (especially the second one) are totally crap.

Delta force: Black Hawk Down, not an adaptation but a good movie about real events that happened, same with the game http://store.steampowered.com/app/32670/

So we all know how many game adaptations look like...
But maybe there are some that you think deserve some positive attention? I^v^I
Personally, I only actually enjoyed the Devil May Cry anime and Persona 4 The Animation (currently watching) so I'm open for some recommendations. :D
No gibs for now, hoping to save up for a little November event.
