I need to turn off my parents pc (windows 10) every night at 11 pm. UNLESS there's some kind of program open / update installing in background. Is it possible to do so safely? I'm afraid I might run into a BSOD if an update fails... which would be more of a nuisance (it would be my responsibility to fix). I appreciate your help

Just create a scheduele for shutdown.exe and set the time. Windows update doesnt matter, if an update has been downloaded and installed when computer is on it will implement update before computer turns off.

I assume you also can set an idle trrigger as a rule for when the computer is in use during that time.
